Everything You Need to Know about ‘Slow Horses’ Season 5
If you've fallen down the rabbit hole that is the first few seasons of Slow Horses, welcome! It's a great place to be. Maybe you found the show because you're a big fan of Gary Oldman, or British spy stories, or both! Or maybe you put it on thinking it was going to be some Yellowstone-esque drama involving horses but then stayed because the writing, characters and, most importantly, the *British accents* were so damn mesmerizing (it's me, hi, I did this). Either way, we're all in it now and are patiently awaiting new episodes.
Season 4 may have just kicked off, but like any good MI5 spy, we're looking ahead and wondering what's coming next. So, here's everything we know about Slow Horses season 5.
Are we getting a season 5 of Slow Horses?
I just love getting to be the bearer of good news, so let me be the first to tell you that YES, there's a season 5 of Slow Horses coming to your screens at some point in the not-too-distant future. Apple renewed the show for a fifth season back in January, right after season 3 finished airing (and many months before season 4 even premiered) so it would seem they're preeeeetty confident in the show's continued success. But, I mean, who wouldn't be, right?? Like, give me 15 seasons of Gary Oldman as a gruff, sloppy, disgraced spy and it still wouldn't be enough.
Now, not to totally burst mine or anyone else's bubble, but the show is based on a series of eight books, with each season of the show corresponding to one book of the series, so it would be safe to assume the TV adaptation will only last as long as the books do. The bright side is that the series' author, Mick Herron, hasn't given any indication that he's finished with them yet, with a ninth book expected sometime next year.
What would season 5 be about?
Even though we haven't seen exactly how season 4 of Slow Horses is going to play out on screen, we know that season 5 will be based on the fifth book in the series, London Rules. Without giving away too many of the juicy details, here's a (very) brief overview of what we can look forward to: A series of terrorist attacks are rocking the country just as one of the Slow Horses, Roddy Ho, is having to evade murderous attempts on his life. Could the two possibly be related?? Only time will tell! But there's one thing that's for sure—the Slow Horses are going to make some messy mistakes and break the rules along the way to finding out. OH! And London Rules is where Jackson's big mess up that landed him in the slough house in the first place is revealed.
When would season 5 come out?
Slow Horses hasn't followed a super strict release schedule, so an exact date is hard to pin down. But, with the exception of season 1, every other season has come out towards the end of the year, every year—none of this waiting two years for a handful of episodes garbage that some other shows seem to be doing. With that in mind, it seems likely that season 5 will come out sometime in the last four months or so of 2025.
