Erin Napier has renovated dozens of kitchens on HGTV's Home Town, so it's reasonable to assume she knows her way around a paint swatch. Still, choosing the perfect color for your own space is no easy task. But when it came time for Erin to renovate her own Mississippi farmhouse, she knew just where to look for inspiration.
Ben and Erin featured their country house renovation on Home Town (stream season 7, episode 1 on Max to see the whole reveal!). On the show, she shares her process for updating the cook space into the "old English kitchen" of her dreams.
During the episode, she explains, "I don't want a kitchen that feels cold or pristine. I want a kitchen that looks like a million recipes have already been cooked in there the day I step in for the first time." She was able to get that vintage feel with honed black mist granite countertops, beams hand-crafted by Ben, a wood floor that feels good on bare feet, and a warm paint color.
She says, "The most important thing to me when choosing colors for myself that make me happy are colors that look lived in, and that's a little bit yellow, a little aged."
Erin recently revisited her kitchen paint color on Instagram and revealed the inspiration: Mrs. Patmore’s kitchen from Downton Abbey. She shared a photo (with a cameo from Ben!) with the note, "In real life, my kitchen is actually sorta yellow, just so you know. I like it very much."
She posted images from the Downton Abbey exhibit and a scene from the show, paired with her paint color: Netsuke by Sherwin-Williams. We love how Erin brought the cozy old English feel to her Mississippi kitchen.
