Los Angeles is well known for Hollywood, the wealth found there, and its traffic. As a born and bred Southern Californian, I know from experience that almost anytime you drive into L.A. you can expect to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic and go nowhere fast. ABC7 shared a video on Tuesday, May 21st of a dog who somehow managed to get on and then run down the 110 freeway near Chinatown in the middle of the day, bringing traffic to a halt.

Drivers stopped traffic and many of them tried to catch the speedy dog. The dog was running at full speed, with not a care in the world! Watch to see how the dog is finally captured, safe and sound.

Thankfully, the dog was caught unharmed and had quite an adventure to remember! ABC7 commenters left nearly 500 comments about the video. @Angelic Guerrera shared, "Love that so many people joined forces and helped out to make sure he was safe - best kinds of people!!!" and @Dean Reutter added, "I was almost afraid to watch the video. Thank goodness they got him/her and nobody was hurt."

More About the Dog's Adventure

While the dog was recovered safely, CBS News spoke to the California Highway Patrol who said they routinely receive calls about animals on the freeways. Officer April Elliot explained, "Unfortunately, animal calls are frequent in the Los Angeles area. Many times dogs, pets or other animals make their way onto the freeway or are abandoned and CHP responds to assist, to ensure the roadways are clear and safe and whenever possible catch the animal and take it to a local animal shelter,"

The dog was determined to be a stray and taken to North Central Animal Shelter. He was not microchipped and was not claimed. There he was just one of hundreds of other dogs and cats waiting to find a forever family. This dog's story has a happy ending! KTLA shared the news that the dog, now named Bailey, was adopted just days after his adventure!

Baileys new parents, John and Joey, had no idea how Bailey ended up at the shelter, and had not seen the video. John told KTLA, "It was insane because when we got him, they just said he was a stray! I’m not surprised that people saw him and wanted to help him out.”

The couple went on to say that the connection with Bailey was instant, and that they knew he'd be a perfect companion for their other dog named Eve. “The amazing staff at the North Central Animal Shelter said they’re not used to seeing a dog bond that quickly.” John and Joey are hoping that their story will inspire others to adopt, “All of those great people that took the time and pulled over and took the time to get him taken care of and taken to an animal shelter, we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Like most shelters across the country the shelter system in Los Angeles is currently overcrowded and overburdened. If you're considering bringing home a new pet, please consider adopting one from a shelter - you could literally be saving a life.
