Dog Adopted After 676 Days of Waiting Reunites with His Brother at New 'Perfect Home'

Matt's new owner also adopted the dog's brother over a year ago

After nearly two years at an animal shelter waiting "too long" for an adopter, a pup in Montana found a forever home — and reunited with a canine sibling!

Matt is a husky who spent 676 days at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society (LCHS) in Helena, Montana. On March 17, the dog finally went home with a pet parent, the shelter shared on Facebook.

In a post detailing what started as a "pretty normal day" at the shelter, the humane society described how "things got a little strange" for Matt, who was confused about why everyone was sharing their goodbyes with him.

"His favorite volunteers came to his kennel one by one with tears in their eyes saying goodbye. No snuggles of course (that's not Matt's thing) but they all tossed treats, and waved goodbye," the post continued.

LCHS noted that Matt picked up on what was happening when "a strange man who had been into the shelter earlier that week" showed up to get Matt — and already had Matt's brother Kenai in his car waiting to reunite with Matt.

Kenai arrived at the shelter with Matt back in 2022 and was adopted last year by the man who ended up adopting Matt.

"He wasn't going to have to say goodbye to his brother Kenai after all," the Facebook post about Matt's adoption read. "Instead, he got to hop up in his Dad's SUV and take the final ride home with his new family. After almost 2 years at LCHS, Matt is happy and in a home right now, finally living his best life."

"Thank you to all of the volunteers, fosters, staff, and donors who helped make this happen. Matthew is a special boy, and he has found the perfect home," the post concluded.

As LCHS celebrates its 60th anniversary, the organization is encouraging animal lovers to donate to its cause.
