Deer Sweetly Watching Woman Play Piano in the Park Proves Music Is a Universal Language

If you've ever stopped in your tracks to see what an animal is doing, you're certainly not alone. Plenty of people enjoy watching animals in parks and backyards, but it's rare that the roles are reversed. Sure, pets spy on their owners all the time, but wild animals tend to keep to themselves.

Sometimes, though, things just work out perfectly. Ask Margarita Sipatova! This piano sensation was playing on a keyboard in a park (she didn't specify where) when a pair of curious deer approached for a closer listen. There's zero doubt what they're interested in--her music--but viewers have so many questions about why the deer are so into it! It's certainly not something I've ever seen before, and I'm willing to bet you haven't either.

How cool! These little deer are so cute for approaching at all, but their little head nods are the icing on the cake. It's as if they're saying, 'Hey friend, nice job!' Pianist Margarita doesn't seem surprised to have this wildlife encounter in the park, though, which makes me wonder what kind of people-loving deer these are. Could they be used to interacting with people?

"Their interest in music is fascinating," agrees commenter @charlescarnegie791. The cuteness is only a bonus! Even though I'm surprised that more viewers aren't asking questions, I'm very glad someone included the classic deer pun: "She's fawning over you!" Not only is it clever, but it's accurate, too!

While deer are considered to be wild animals, fawns and young deer are sometimes seen in animal sanctuaries and petting zoos alongside mini farm animals. These deer learn to adjust to a whole new kind of life, and it's possible these deer live at a park where they interact with people every day. Just think about it! Nara Park is one of Japan's most famous tourist locations, and it's all thanks to the polite deer who bow in exchange for snacks. Why would they ever go back to being completely wild animals?

Do Animals Understand Music?

While many animals, including deer, have senses of hearing that are even more sensitive than humans, their brains don't necessarily process the sounds of music the same way. Many dogs and cats go their entire lives without reacting to music, and it's usually the same for wild animals. They may be curious about the sounds, and they may begin to associate music with positive things like happy people and being fed, but there's no reason to believe these deer are appreciating the song in the same way a person would. Sorry to burst your bubble!
