Couple takes down sister-in-law’s artwork in mom’s house without telling her: ‘I’ve tried talking to her’
A woman doesn’t know what to do about a family painting that frightens her 2-year-old.
She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum to weigh in. She and her husband moved into his aging mother’s house, so she doesn’t live alone. In the home, there’s a painting by her sister-in-law. Unfortunately, it terrifies her daughter.
“I’ve tried talking to her and showing her it’s harmless but she’s 2 so it hasn’t really helped,” the mom explained.
She discussed the matter with her husband, and they decided to move the painting to a different part of the house. But when her sister-in-law came to visit and noticed the painting was missing, she became upset. The mom explained it was because it frightened her toddler.
“My sister-in-law told me I had no right to take it down as this isn’t my home,” the mom wrote. “We usually have a good relationship but she’s completely ignoring me now and hung the painting back up.”
Redditors thought moving the painting was the right move.
“You moved back in. It is your home,” a user wrote.
“If SIL wants the painting up where she wants it, she can move back in and take care of mom,” another added.
“You aren’t a guest in that house. You moved in and do get a say in these types of things,” someone commented.
