Cats Become Instant Best Friends While Out on a Walk with Their Humans

Cats aren't necessarily known for being the social type. In fact, most people would say that cats sort of don't need anyone, or anything, to be happy. But that isn't always true. In fact, there are a few cats that are happy being social. Like two kitties who met while on a walk recently that completely hit it off and became BFFS.

Now we know what you're thinking, there was not one but two cats out on a walk? Yep, it's true. Their shared love of walking must be why they got along so fast.

As a video from the @walktethered shows, the orange cat and a beautiful gray cat met each other while out and about and quickly a bond was formed. First they sniffed each other, then before you know it they were rolling around on the ground wrestling. Cats — they really do have their own way of socializing don't they?

People in the comments section were stunned. "I’ve never seen two random full grown cats meet and get along. Wow," wrote one woman. "They immediately tested each other’s Jiu Jitsu skills," someone else joked. "PLEASE tell me you got their number so the kitties can meet again," another commenter begged. "Wow this is VERY rare..what sweet souls they have," one woman noted.

Can Cats Make Cat Friends?

The last commenter wasn't exaggerating. Cats don't make friends easily. It takes cats anywhere from eight to 12 months to develop a relationship with other cats. If it happens at all. Cats rarely make friends, even strays. They don't tend to live in pairs or groups and don't naturally seek out other cats' company. They actually tend to avoid any interaction with other cats as much as possible. So when we say this is rare we really mean it.

Domestic cats are a whole other story. They too aren't the most social, but can sometimes bond with other cats if they share the same home. The key when introducing your cat to a new kitty is to have patience. It's a waiting game to see if the two will bond with each other and in the end, they simply may never get along.

In the worst cases, cats can actually fight with each other, which might prompt their owners to re-home one of them. Unfortunately, it's pretty much impossible to predict how your cat will behave around other cats until you bring them around. It just depends on your cat's temperament.

That's why these two are so incredibly special. They need a playdate — ASAP.
