Save That Dough: These are the Best 65-Inch TVs Under $500 in 2022

When we think of a 65-inch TV, prices hovering around the $1,000 mark probably start buzzing around in our heads, and for good reason. Many of today’s leading TV brands are all about capitalizing on features and performance with panels around 65-inch or larger. Just take a look at some of the top flagship offerings from names like Samsung, LG, and Sony.

Samsung’s amazing S95B QD-OLED is a cutting-edge powerhouse of a TV, combining the magnificence of QLED lighting with an OLED-style screen, but it’s only available in 55- and 65-inch sizes. The same goes for pretty much any LG OLED on the market, along with Sony’s formidable A95K TV, another QD-OLED titan that you’ll only find as small as a 55-inch.

That being said, if you’re looking for a large screen and the only thing you really care about is being able to afford one, there are a number of great 65-inch options out there that come in well under $500. Keep in mind that these TVs are going to give you the bare minimum in one sense or another, even if all the models have 4K screens.

If you don’t mind giving up some degree of motion performance, brightness, color, contrast, or some element of the TV’s web-connected capabilities, then read on to learn all about the best 65-inch TVs you can buy for $500 or less.

1. Hisense 65-inch U6H ULED TV

BEST OVERALL

Best for: Anyone looking to get an optimized 4K image, complete with powerful colors and contrast, arresting brightness, and a Google TV streaming platform.

Who it’s for: Hisense fans, budget-conscious shoppers, and pretty much anyone looking for a great TV at a great price.

The Hisense U6H  is one of the best entry-level TVs that we’ve taken for a spin in 2022 thus far. When it comes to picture quality, it’s hard to beat the 4K upscaling that you’ll get with the U6H. Overall, this is one of the brightest and most colorful 65-inch TVs for under $500, and the Google TV smart platform is awesome for streaming all your favorite movies and TV shows, too. There’s even Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, with the option of using the TV as a Google smart home controller even when the set is powered down. And while you’ll only get 60Hz across all inputs and a bit of backlight blooming (halos of light around certain subjects on a dark screen), the Hisense 65-inch U6H is a force to be reckoned with.

2. Insignia 65-inch F50 Series Smart Fire TV

RUNNER UP

Best for: Someone looking for a big TV that doesn’t care too much about getting the world’s most perfect picture.

Who it’s for: Those looking to save a buck or two on a reputable entry-level set, albeit a fairly large one.

Looking for a basic, no-frills smart TV under $500? Then you have to consider the Insignia F50 Series Smart 4K UHD QLED Fire TV (NS-65F501NA22, 2021). This Insignia TV uses Amazon’s Fire TV smart interface (not to be confused with the new Fire TVs produced directly by Amazon itself), so no streaming stick is needed to access your favorite apps and streaming services. This QLED display can’t compete with the premium Samsung TVs using this display technology, but this model still provides a 4K resolution and smart features like an Alexa voice remote.

3. TCL 65-inch 4-Series Google TV

BEST GOOGLE TV

Best for: Google TV devotees, especially those that enjoy a rock-solid picture at a great price.

Who it’s for: Fans of the TCL name that don’t want a Roku or Android TV operating system for their smart features.

The TCL 6-Series is one of the best budget sets on the market, complete with powerful brightness, colors, contrast, and the incredible Google TV streaming platform. Normally, this set goes for well over $500, but it’s currently on sale for only $430 through Amazon! Google TV keeps an eye on all the shows and movies you watch the most, compiling recommendations onto the Home Screen that align with your viewing habits. There’s even built-in Google Assistant support, allowing you to control your Google smart home while the TV is on or off.

4. TCL 65-inch 4-Series Roku TV

BEST FOR VOICE ASSISTANTS

Best for: Anyone looking for a great TV that can double as a smart home command center.

Who it’s for: Alexa and Google Assistant device owners.

This was our previous recommendation for the best 65-inch TV under $500, and it’s still an excellent choice. This budget smart TV has all of the features you’re looking for, and it’s all powered by the Roku smart TV interface. The TCL 4-Series offers a lot of value for just $499, and it works with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Ultimately, the Omni Series has slightly better features and doubles as a smart speaker, but you can’t go wrong with either option.

5. Toshiba 65-inch C350 Fire TV

AN EXCELLENT FIRE TV

Best for: Fans of the Fire TV streaming platform and anyone looking for a decent 65-inch set that doesn’t break the bank.

Who it’s for: Folks that do most of their TV watching through apps like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ instead of regular cable.

You don’t see many Toshiba TVs these days, with the C350 being the rare exception. And the name of the game with this model is extreme affordability. There’s not much in the way of skimping on picture features either. This is a 4K screen with upscaling functions, strong LED backlighting, and a Fire TV web platform for all things streaming. There’s even a 75-inch option for only $630! While this may not be the optimal buy for a heavy-duty gamer (only 60Hz refresh rate), we think that if every penny counts, you won’t be sorry for investing them all into the C350.

6. Insignia 65-inch F30 Fire TV

CHEAPEST FIRE TV

Best for: Alexa households that want to use the living room TV to control smart home devices, set timers and reminders, and more.

Who it’s for: Those looking to get a great smart TV, Alexa command center, and decent-looking picture all in one package.

Compared to the Insignia F50, there’s a few losses with the F30, mostly in the form of picture quality. And while QLED lighting, Dolby Vision, and a single HDMI input are off the table, you’re still getting a rock-solid 4K TV with the incredibly user-friendly Fire TV platform, as well as built-in Alexa capabilities.

7. Vizio 65-inch V-Series TV

BEST 4K UPSCALING

Best for: Someone that is going to watch a lot of lower resolution HD content.

Who it’s for: Vizio fans and anyone looking to get a TV built to maximize the picture of any source you connect to it.

When it comes to reliable performance and great picture quality, Vizio has long been a solid contender, and the 65-inch V-Series is one of our favorite 65-inch TVs for under $500. The big reason? The V-Series uses Vizio’s IQ Active Processor to analyze and enhance any source connected to the TV, as well as internal content from apps like Netflix and Hulu. That’s on top of powerful backlighting and the V-Gaming Engine for optimizing all next-gen console gameplay.

8. Samsung 65-inch TU7000 Series TV

BEST 65-INCH SAMSUNG UNDER $500

Best for: Samsung fans that expect the best when it comes to the brand’s tried and true picture quality, performance, and reliability.

Who it’s for: Anyone shopping for one of the best-looking 65-inch TVs you can buy without spending more than $500.

Samsung commands a large share of the TV marketplace, and it pretty much goes without saying that if you’re looking for the latest and greatest in TV tech, going with the newest Samsung is always a safe bet. But for those of us that can’t afford the flagship pricing of the brand’s most expensive entries, the TU7000 Series will still get you that glorious Samsung picture on a budget. And with the TU7000’s Crystal Display and HDR support, this 65-inch will look and feel like a much pricier alternative.
