Although being an Animal Control officer can be challenging both physically and mentally, it also has many rewarding moments. Whether a family is reunited with their best friend or a scared, injured dog finally accepts pets for the first time, Fresno County Animal Control Officer Alcorn wants to share those moments. That's why she created her TikTok account, @acoalcorn, and also why she shared a heartwarming rescue case on April 22.

When her team responded to a call about an injured stray dog, they met the sweetest Golden Retriever mix. He had made himself comfortable in the dirt--even packing soil around his injured leg like a cushion--until some thoughtful people saw him and called for help. They gave him water and love until Officer Alcorn arrived, and then the sweetheart was treated to even more love and care.

Thank you, Officer Alcorn and team, for being there for this handsome guy! He seems like such a loving dog despite whatever he's been through before he was found, and that's priceless. Even though he's hurt and maybe a bit hesitant at first, the rescued dog is as trusting as can be with everyone who comes to his aid.

The Golden Retriever mix seemed so grateful to be rescued, and he was alert and curious at the vet clinic. But I think everyone will agree the best part is him giving Officer Alcorn kisses at the end of the video! Clearly, this was a win-win situation for this animal advocate and her new friend.

"What a cutie," agreed commenter @jenniinsj. "I hope he can heal from his injury and get adopted!" I think it's safe to say that everyone feels that way! This charismatic guy has charmed everyone who's crossed his path, and it's only a matter of time before he's exactly where he needs to be--whether that's reunited with an existing owner or adopted to a new one!

What Do Animal Control Officers Do?

Animal Control Officers (ACOs) like Officer Alcorn do a lot more than rescuing stray dogs--though that certainly is a large part of the job! In addition to tending to strays, they may respond to animal cruelty or neglect concerns, respectfully take care of deceased animals, or respond to animal-related emergencies. Needless to say, it's a variable job!

In California, where Officer Alcorn is located, ACOs can be employed by either the local government (e.g. a city or county) or "private animal welfare organizations with contracts with cities or counties." These are the professionals who may respond to the scene of a dog bite or a horse stuck in traffic, but no matter how random their calls may be, there's no doubt how important they are to so many homeless animals like this precious rescue guy.
