Brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier Performs Amazing Wall Parkour to Retrieve Lost Stick

Have you ever seen that scene in Jurassic Park where the raptors figure out how to work door handles? That’s the only thing I could think when I watched this adorable Staffordshire Bull Terrier literally do wall parkour in order to retrieve a lost stick. This level of acrobatics takes serious ingenuity, and it makes me wonder if I’ve been underestimating the intelligence of a dog.

In this video a sweet, brindle-colored Staffie named Noia is not going to let a little thing like a ten foot vertical wall keep her from her stick. She braces her front two paws against the wall and her back two paws against the trunk of a tree and begins to shimmy up until she gets high enough to leap forward onto the top of the wall and get her stick back.

Amazing!

“Welcome to living with a Staffordshire.. if they had thumbs ,they’d build rockets,” comments someone who is not surprised at all by this dog’s amazing feats.

In other videos, Noia’s human shows off her skills at climbing ladders, trees, balancing on his shoulders, and other acrobatic acts. It’s clear this pup loves to perform agility tricks, and they are the type that make her well suited not just for the competition ring, but possibly for a Hollywood stunt show as well.

Is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Right For You?

After watching a video like this, it’s easy to wonder if Staffies might be too smart, and too ingenious for your average dog owner to handle. And it’s true, they’re bright, hard-working, persistent dogs who need adequate training and plenty of exercise to keep from becoming bored, mischievous, and potentially destructive.

Staffies are an often-misunderstood breed, and are restricted in some neighborhoods and districts due to their history of being bred as fighting dogs and their association with so-called “pit bulls.” But devotees of the breed and of similar dogs (again, pit bulls) know this negative reputation is by and large unearned. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are a short, stocky dog, with an intelligent, loyal nature. They love to be put to work and to hang out with their people. They have a short, dense coat of fur that comes in many colors, but are particularly beautiful in the tiger-striped brindle markings seen on Noia.

How To Teach Your Dog Agility

Dog agility is a competition style sport that consists of guiding a dog through a series of obstacle courses. It’s a fun activity for both canines and their humans and the best part is, competition is open to dogs of any variety or breed, including mutts.

To know if your dog is right for agility participation or even competition is pretty easy—do they like running obstacle courses? Are they energetic, playful, and obedient?

Even if your dog is not the type who wants to perform in pre-set agility competitions, you can still train your dog to problem solve and run obstacle courses, like Noia does here.

But be careful: once you have trained your dog to climbs fences and trees, and escape from various enclosures, you’re going to have to start keeping an eye on them. No backyard will hold them after this.
