Lanphier High School students and teachers returned to their building Tuesday after classes were interrupted by a bomb threat.

The Springfield Police Department received a report of a bomb threat called into the school at 12:38 p.m. Students were evacuated to Memorial Stadium while a search of the building was conducted with help from the Illinois Secretary of State Police. The Springfield Fire Department also assisted with the evacuation.

SPD and the Secretary of State Police, who operate K-9 units, deemed the building clear at 2:27 p.m., according to Springfield District 186 officials.

All students re-entered the building through metal detectors with law enforcement overseeing the return.

SPD said that detectives also arrived to investigate the origin of the threat. An investigation is ongoing.

Construction workers in buildings at the new Lober-Nika Gymnasium were also evacuated, but returned to work said Rachel Dyas, a spokesperson for District 186.

No students were present in those construction sites, Dyas said.

Dyas said parents and guardians of Lanphier students were informed about the threat via phone calls and emails.

The situation was posted to Lanphier's website as well as the District 186 website.

Volleyball games at Lanphier versus Jacksonville High School were on for Tuesday, Dyas confirmed.
