In The Know is proud to celebrate National Black Business Month. During this month, our team will highlight a wide range of Black-owned brands. We encourage you to support today and beyond.

With Black entrepreneurs making big changes in the world and their communities, an oat-milk-only ice cream brand has made its way to stomachs across the nation. Named Whipped Urban Dessert Lab, the Black, sister-owned brand has an ice cream shop on the Lower East Side. Thankfully, you can also have the shop’s delicious flavors shipped straight to your door.

While a lot of ice cream at the local market uses dairy-filled milk, Urban Dessert Lab opts in for oat milk. Learning that roughly 75% of Black Americans are lactose intolerant, sisters Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R. made an alternative. Even with this Black-owned ice cream brand offering plant-based, vegan and dairy-free options, the product still tastes like real deal ice cream. In addition to being dairy-free, Whipped Urban Dessert Lab also has some flavors that are free of eggs, nuts, soy and gluten.

Right now, you can shop for your own pint in a four-pack of the brand’s flavors via Goldbelly. If you want a taste of this Black-owned ice cream shop, get a lick of these yummy flavors.

  • Blush Cake – Small vanilla cake bits whipped into a baby-pink strawberry and crème base

  • PB Chocolate – Delicious chocolate meshed with chunky peanut butter pieces

  • Cocoa Hazelnut – Chocolate with hazelnuts throughout

  • Cookies & Crème 2.0 – A classic take on cookies and cream, decorated with fudge cookies

  • Malted Espresso – An espresso crème sprinkled with malted crumble
