Baldur's Gate 3 Becomes The Most Played Game on Steam Deck

It’s been just over two years since Valve released its handheld gaming PC, and despite its low-end internals, gamers are taking it for a wild ride. As part of this year’s Steam Spring sale, Valve revealed the top 100 games played on the Steam Deck by player count, with Larian Studios’ RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 emerging victorious.

Baldur’s Gate 3 beat many other critically acclaimed games from last year, followed by Vampire Survivors, Dave the Diver, Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, and Palworld. The amount of big, AAA games on the list is astounding, especially considering how the Steam Deck can’t exactly handle these games most optimally.

Here are the top 10 games played on the Steam Deck according to Valve:

  • Baldur's Gate 3

  • Vampire Survivors

  • Dave the Diver

  • Hogwarts Legacy

  • Elden Ring

  • Red Dead Redemption 2

As you may have noticed, most of the games on the list are recent open-world games. This shows that most Steam Deck owners are fine playing the latest and greatest on lower-end hardware as long as they can take it with them anywhere. The Steam Deck is a well-balanced machine that is best put to use when clearing your backlog of smaller games, but it can also handle big games if you're smart about the settings you're using.

Sure, technically all of these games, except Palworld, are marked as Steam Deck Verified on the store, but you’re mostly constrained to around 30fps at the lowest settings. It shows that gamers using the handheld may be less averse to performance that many enthusiast PC players would call “unplayable.”

Baldur's Gate 3 was one of last year's most acclaimed games, winning many accolades across awards ceremonies, including the Game of the Year trophy at The Game Awards. Larian Studios has continued to support the game, improving its performance while adding new features to it.
