This year marks a big one for Dungeons & Dragons: It's the 50th anniversary of D&D. And whether the D&D fan in your life is a veteran Dungeon Master or a newbie curious to get into the game, there's plenty for them to get excited about, since there are lots of launches and collaborations planned for the milestone — with more announcements sure to come as 2024 rolls on.
Of course, even without the new, shiny 50th anniversary items, there are loads of great Dungeons & Dragons gift ideas for 2024. There are plenty of game extensions, add-ons and accessories, from creative dice sets to terrain maps and DM screens to new adventure books that are available for pre-order. Then there are the fan items for collectors, like plushes, figurines, statues and art that make the game room look good. And finally, there are the D&D gifts that take the dungeon to other rooms of the house, like appliances for the kitchen or PJs and blankets for the bedroom. Grab one of these, and you won't have to beware the smiling DM.

'Vecna: Eye of Ruin' D&D Adventure Book
Of course, D&D is not going to let its 50th anniversary pass without a thrilling new adventure. In this one, the fate of the universe is at stake, as iconic villain Vecna is set on destroying it. In order to defeat him, players will travel through the multiverse, to locations old and new, and battle 30 new monsters in their quest to save the world. Vecna: Eye of Ruin will be released on May 21, and it's for character levels 10 to 20; for less experienced players, Quests from the Infinite Staircase — a new adventure for levels 1 to 13 — will be out on July 16.
Dungeons & Dragons Pajama Pants
Whether they're gearing up for a lengthy campaign or just want to be cozy while lounging around the house, these PJ pants will let them be comfy and help them manifest their future dice rolls. Added bonus: They have pockets!
'The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977' Book
This tome is not for the casual fan. Instead, true die-hards can read about the creation of D&D from the very beginning, including creator Gary Gygax's original typed draft along with his hand-written notes. There are also tons more ephemera, including correspondence between Gygax and co-creator David Arneson, early booklets and supplements and even old fanzine articles. It comes out on June 18, but it's available for pre-order now.
Dice Throne and Time-Out Chair
Got a bad roll? Punish that die! Good one? Give that die a seat of honor! This hilarious set comes with a "time-out chair" and dunce cap for the misbehaving die, plus a "crit crown" and lucky throne for the good ones. It also comes with a full set of seven die.
D20 Ice Cube Mold
Spherical ice may be all the rage, but D20-shaped "ice dice" is the next level. This mold makes one large ice cube (good for any beverage, but perfect for whiskey drinkers), but you can also get a D10 mold, a D12 mold or a gift set with all three.
The Deck of Many Things
Together with The Book of Many Things, which is also included in this set, this gift lets DMs add new elements to their campaigns. It comes with 66 cards — 22 original ones, plus 44 new ones — of magical items that can be dropped into the adventures, plus reference guides for how to use them.
Mimic Gamer Pouch
Dice, tokens, condition markers, miniatures — this Mimic will gobble them all up! (And keep them tidy and out of the way.) It's plush with an elastic loop and button closure, and it also has a backpack clip.
D&D Starter Set
If an old hat wants to give the gift of Dungeons & Dragons to a new player, this is really all they'd need to get someone going. Perfect for kids ages 12+, the set comes with an adventure booklet for characters level 1 to level 3, five ready-to-play characters and a set of six die. For players who can handle a little more at the outset, the D&D Essentials Kit is a little more advanced and lets players create their own characters.
D&D Dicelings
Fans of both the game and the delightful Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie can collect some of the movie's most memorable creatures, including the Owlbear, the Beholder, the Displacer and assorted dragons. While they look great on a desk or shelf, the real fun comes in their transformation: They can fold up into replicas of D20 die (not balanced for use in actual play, of course, but looks cool all the same).
D20 Throw Blanket
Spread this over a couch or the foot of a bed, and you've got an eye-catching design, especially when it comes to the bold colors and unique shape. But, of course, it's also soft and cozy when used it as a lap blanket.
Bobby & Uni Action Figures
Old-school fans will remember CBS's Dungeons & Dragons Saturday Morning Cartoon. (It was a collaboration between Marvel and Toei!) If that brings up a certain brand of nostalgia, go for these retro, six-inch action figures. In addition to Bobby and Uni, you can also get Hank (the ranger) and Diana (the acrobat). Each one comes with a commemorative die.
RPG Character Journal
Players can keep track of their characters' backstories, classes, inventories, abilities, skills, spells and more, all in one place without loose character sheets. The pre-formatted pages are organized, so a player can keep track of one main character in the front and four additional characters in the back.
Dungeon Mayhem Game
Newbies, kids ages 8 and up and groups pressed for time can still enjoy some D&D-themed action with this easy-to-learn, fast-to-play card game. It's designed to be completed in less than 10 minutes, with players drawing and quickly playing cards to knock down their opponents' 10 hit points.
D20 Bath Bombs
No matter if your D&D player is a Bard or a Barbarian, everybody deserves to de-stress at the end of a long campaign. This comes with an oversize, 11-ounce, D20-shaped bath bomb that dissolves relaxing "dragon's blood" into the bath. (It's pink and smells like peach.) In addition, as it dissolves, it reveals a full set of seven polyhedral dice in surprise colors.
D&D Wall Decor
To the uninitiated, these wooden wall hanging look like cool, minimalist shapes. But to those in the know, they're the outlines of the different polyhedral die used in roleplaying games. Either way, they look great up on the wall!
Galdor's Guild Travel D&D Pocket Watch
This item is a "pocket watch" in name only — open it up, and you won't find a clock face, but a compartment concealing a set of seven small (8mm to 12mm) polyhedral die. The outside has a cool design of a dragon encircling a D20.
Wildspire Fantasy Miniatures Monsters Set
For D&D fans who love painting their own figurines, this set comes with 68 miniatures (28 mm scale) plus a larger, to-be-assembled Bookish Dragon. Fans love the design and details, and say you get a lot of figures for the price.
Snowy Owlbear Phunny Plush by Kidrobot
Who wouldn't want this plush next to them during a campaign? The Owlbear is 7" tall and has super-soft plush, but Kidrobot also makes other creatures, including a Beholder, Displacer, Griffon, Eye Monger, Space Swine and Giant Space Hamster, among others. You can also get D&D creatures in smaller, backpack charm sizes (with clips).
LYNX Miniatures Condition Markers
Players can keep track of their characters' goings-on without damaging their miniatures with this set of flexible rubber rings. There are 96 rings in the set that mark 24 different status conditions, and the raised lettering makes them easy to read.
Adult Red Dragon Premium Figure
It wouldn't be Dungeons & Dragons without, well, dragons, and this detailed figure towers over miniatures, standing nearly 8 inches tall and posed as if it's mid-flight. It's one of five "D&D Icons of the Realms" chromatic figures, and you can get blue, green, black and white dragons to go with it.
Dungeons & Dragons Halo Toaster
It may not be as hot as dragon fire, but this little appliance burns bright enough to toast a D20 outline onto a piece of bread. The outside is a striking red and black and also in the shape of a roleplaying die.
Forged Dice Co. Dice Tray and Tower
If their die-rolling wrist is getting tired (or, worse, unlucky), let them shoot through this tower instead. The eight-inch tower folds flat for easy storage, and the design looks like rainbow dragon scales (though it does come in six other colors without the scale design).
'Düngeonmeister' Cocktail Recipe Book
If the grog isn't cutting it at their tavern, give them this cocktail book, which comes with recipes for 75 different RPG-inspired drinks. Are they brave enough to take a sip of a Necromancer, or strong enough to withstand Psionic Blasts? Only time will tell. If they're truly gifted in the kitchen, there's also Hero's Feast, the official D&D cookbook.
Game Grid Mat Expansion Pack
This set comes with three double-sided, gridded maps, so players have access to lava, sea, forest, cave, swamp and desert terrain. It also comes with dry-erase markers that players can use and wipe-off, but the real innovation is the straightening clips that can be used to make the maps lay flat, even if they've been stored rolled up in the tube.
D&D Knowledge Metal Sign
From abilities to alignment, races to rules, this metal sign lays it all out and looks striking on the wall of a game room. You can get it in one of four sizes, from 8" x 12" all the way up to 12" x 18" ($28), and the metal gives it a retro feel.
Dungeon Master's Screen Reincarnated
Whether they're new to DMing or have done campaigns for years, it's always helpful to keep important information at hand. This Dungeon Master's screen has tons of info printed on the back, yet it's not so tall that the DM can't see what's going on.
Class & D20 Dice Spinner Necklace
This innovative necklace comes with a two-sided disc that can be used as a spinner: One side of the disc has all the D&D classes, and the others the numbers 1 to 20. It's probably better to be used just as a conversation piece of jewelry (or a fidget spinner) than to be used in a real game, but it really does spin, so it can be used as s D20 if you want it to.
'Tears of My Players' Wooden Beer Mug
You know what they say: When the Dungeon Master smiles, it's already too late. (You can also get that slogan on a t-shirt.) If the DM in your life is particularly tough, get them this wooden stein, made from actual oak with a copper label. It holds 20 ounces of liquid, but it feels more substantial than that.
Mystery Dice Goblin Full Set
From multi-color confetti dice to clear dice with pink unicorns inside to metal dice with skulls and bones, you never know what you're going to get in a mystery pack from Mystery Dice Goblin. There are more than 100 unique sets in all, and you can even set up a subscription if you want to gift the D&D fan in your life a few different ones. Another good gift? Their "ugly, unpolished, poorly inked, cursed" Dice of Disappointment, which they say makes a perfect gift for "enemies" or "a nasty DM" (or a good gag gift for nice ones).
Sacred Statue 50th Anniversary Plush
Recognize this guy? Veteran D&D players will know him as the figure on the cover of the first edition Players Handbook from 1978. And now, in honor of the game's 50th anniversary, Kidrobot will make him come to life in huggable, plush form. This is not actually expected to ship out until fall, but it'll go quickly, so fans should pre-order it now.
Heroes & Villains Red Dragon Varsity Jacket
If the school won't let them letter in Dungeons and Dragons, they can still get in on the preppy look with this D&D varsity jacket. The back has a cool red dragon design. It comes from Heroes & Villains, which has other, less expensive "Roll to Hit" Dungeons & Dragons gifts, including sweaters, a scarf and beanie set, a backpack, and more.
