Popeyes rolls out chocolate-filled beignets nationwide

Popeyes' roots are in New Orleans, home of the beloved beignet, but the dessert has never made it onto the chicken chain's menu — until now.

Last year, Popeyes leaned into the spice, with its viral Spicy Chicken Sandwich, but now it's going sweet with its newly launched chocolate-stuffed beignets that are fried to order and covered with powdered sugar.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 14, Popeyes' Chocolate Beignets will be available at locations nationwide, and chocolate lovers are in for a sweet treat. The Popeyes spin on a New Orleans classic is stuffed with melted Hershey’s chocolate and covered in powdered sugar.

As beignets are known to be quite messy, the chain is also launching a Beignet Camo hoodie. These hoodies will be sold at ThatLookFromPopeyes.com for $35. A fun feature of the black hoodie is that it comes with white splatters as part of the design, so it'll be harder to tell if powdered sugar spills on your clothes while eating a beignet.

These pastries were originally spotted in October as part of a test run at few Massachusetts-area and Maryland Popeyes locations, but this will be the first time they are available to fans across the country.

“As a brand from New Orleans, we are always looking to bring new dishes and desserts from our hometown to the menu, but at this time the beignets are only available at select restaurants,” a representative for Popeyes said.

The new Chocolate Beignets will be available nationwide for a limited time with size options that include three pieces for a suggested price of $1.99), six pieces for a suggested price of $3.99 and a 12-piece option for $7.59.

Social media has been ready to give this new treat a try since October.

No word yet on how long these beignets will be around, so if you love them, why not go for the dozen?
