15 Things I'm Buying From West Elm's SECRET Online Outlet
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links."
I love West Elm and have bought various pieces from the retailer over the years, including this drinks side table and bathroom vanity. The brand is known for its midcentury modern-inspired look and many of the items are timeless, making them a great fit for any home. As an avid fan who always browses the site for new finds and deals, you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that there's a West Elm outlet section online. While I knew the retailer had outlet stores across the country (I just went to one in Industry City, Brooklyn, to search for pendant lights), I didn't know West Elm also had an online outlet.
It's kind of hidden on their website, so if you're also like, wait, what?? allow me to explain. Go to the sale category and hover over it. Alll the way to the far right, you'll see a section called Open Box Outlet Deals. When you click into it, you'll be brought to a section where items, from sofas and coffee tables to mirrors and rugs to bedding to candles, are all on major discount. Like the name implies, this section offers on-sale items that were opened and then returned, so some items may show moderate use or not arrive to you in their original packaging. All the pieces in your West Elm order will be there, though, so don't worry about getting a damaged-beyond-repair product. I found bedding for as low as $17 and rugs for $126, so even though all sales are final, the discounts are totally worth it. Plus, if you know what West Elm item you want and don't want to pay more for it, this is low-key the only section you'll want to shop—don't even bother with the new arrivals page.
Since there are seemingly endless products in the Open Box Outlet Deals section, I spent about an hour scrolling through the page to curate 15 products I think are worth buying. Save yourself some time by checking out my favorite finds ahead, but if you want to go on a treasure hunt yourself to see all the items, you have my full support.
Check out other ways to save big:
Build Your Own - Harmony Modular Sectional
With a deep seat and plush cushions, the Harmony is one of West Elm's top sink-in sectionals, and it's usually quite expensive (think $2k plus!). Through the outlet, though, you can configure your own sectional to your liking for as little as $850. A few things to note about this piece: fabric options will differ depending on what components you pick for your sectional and everything is attached together by the included alligator clips. Cushions are reversible, giving you more flexibility to change up the look and hide away stains.
Modern Overhang Swivel Vanity Mirror
When you tweeze your eyebrows or wing out that eyeliner, you'll need a mirror close up, and this is our pick. Swivel over this vanity mirror to your face so you don't have to uncomfortably lean over the sink anymore. The minimalist design will pair seamlessly with your existing bathroom decor, too.
Baltimore Dining Chair (Set of 2)
Midcentury modern fans will scoop up this pair of dining chairs for $230 in a hot second. The seats are upholstered in a beautiful midnight blue fabric, while the rest of the frame is made from solid wood coated with a walnut stain. Each chair can support up to 275 pounds, making them a sturdy addition to any home.
Cord Stripe Indoor/Outdoor Rug
We love a rug that can work as an indoor and outdoor piece. Why? Let's say you get tired of this after a year and want a new rug. Instead of tossing it out, which can seem wasteful, simply move it outside to your covered deck or backyard, where it can get a second life.
Daisy 6-Drawer Dresser (55")
How sweet is this lavender-colored dresser? The scallop detail on the bottom plus the soft shade make it a must-have piece for a nursery or children's room. With six drawers, you can stuff as many diapers, onesies, and even toys into it as possible. Additionally, for any parent worried about introducing toxic furniture into their kid's room, you can breathe a sigh of relief with this dresser as it's GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low VOCs (volatile organic compounds). If you want even more peace of mind here, scoop up the Mila air purifier, as it'll tell you the exact levels of VOC in a room.
European Flax Linen Duvet Cover & Shams
This linen duvet cover is available in three sizes still (full/queen, king, and king/Cali king), so if you want to upgrade your bedding now is the time to do it. The 100 percent European flax linen is both breathable and absorbent to keep you cool year-round.
Custom Size European Flax Linen Blackout Curtain
This neutral blackout linen curtain comes in five different sizes, giving you ample options for it to fit your windows. Since the sale is final, make sure you measure your space correctly to choose the right curtain length. Once a year, or as needed, bring it to the dry cleaners so the color and fabric stay looking brand new.
Farmhouse Pottery Pantry Candlesticks
We know when items are marked "final sale," those words will make you pause before purchasing. While that's understandable for big pieces of furniture you're not sure will fit into your home, you won't have the same worry with these candle holders. They barely take up any room and are made in Woodstock, Vermont, from New England ash wood. This gives the candle holders a handcrafted feel and would look beautiful on a dining table, coffee table, or even on a bookshelf.
Modern Wave Shag Rug
Want to try the layered rug look for a more dynamic space? This one is perfect for layering over a flatweave rug. If you go with a more neutral and muted option underneath, the design on this West Elm pick will really pop in the room.
Vegan Leather Lounger Ottoman
Leather ottomans are amazing: you can prop your feet up on them, guests can sit on them if you need more seats, kids can climb on them and pretend the floor is lava—need we go on? This one is made from vegan leather and pairs nicely with West Elm's lounger sofa, which is also part of the outlet sale, but would look great on its own too.
Viv Swivel Chair
The outlet section can't keep swivel chairs in stock. We know this because we were eyeing a bouclé one from the outlet section, and it sold out in 24 hours. Don't make the same mistake we did: if you like this frost gray velvet option, add it to your cart ASAP.
Wonder & Wise Land, Sea & Water Table Art Center
The downside to buying expensive toys and furniture for your children is that they will outgrow it quickly, or accidentally break it. So when we happen upon a marked down item, like this water table, that is useful but not after a certain age, we can't help but think it's a steal. This table allows your kids to splash and mix water (or any liquid) with mud, sand, dirt—whatever their heart desires—for hours.
Pure Metal Lantern Collection
Flameless pillar candles can look a bit cheap and plain on their own, but put them inside a glass vessel like these floor lanterns and they'll look 10 times more expensive. You can buy multiple of these to place around your front door or by your outdoor sectional to create warm ambient vibes.
Cocktail Picks
These gemstone cocktail picks are sold out everywhere, so when we spotted them as part of West Elm's outlet deals, we had to alert martini lovers everywhere. They come in a pack of six, and you can use them to pick up cheese or as a place to hold olives or an orange peel for cocktails.
Anton Single Bathroom Vanity
Bathroom vanities are expensive, so if you want to save big, definitely check out the outlet section for options. This one comes in a cool wood tone and can accommodate almost all faucet styles, making it a no-brainer to get if you have a modern home.
