When social media was invented, it was considered a young person’s pursuit, but it didn’t take long for people in their golden years to get into the act. A not-small segment of those golden-agers happen to be celebrities, and their skills vary from person to person.

Having said that, some have truly distinguished themselves with feeds that are consistently diverting. Here are our picks for 11 social media accounts of celebrities in their autumn years whom we feel you should be following.

1. Ruth Buzzi

Ruth Buzzi of “Laugh-In” fame maintains pages on Facebook, Twitter (sorry, “X”), and Instagram, the Holy Trinity of social media platforms. She’s 87 years young and most recently active on Facebook but the place where she’s most entertaining is in Elon-land, where she is a fountain of such one-liners as “Happy Hour keeps getting earlier and earlier. Pretty soon I’ll be pouring wine on my cereal.”

2. Diane Keaton

Actor Diane Keaton is 78 years old and maintains profiles on Facebook, X, and Instagram. Her Instagram feed is home to numerous highly entertaining videos, such as this one in which she expounds upon her love for the music of Miley Cyrus.

3. Candice Bergen

Candice Bergen is 77 years old and still going strong as an actor. The only social media page that she maintains is on Instagram – her Facebook and X presences are maintained by fans – and she uses it to promote her latest projects. In other words, she uses social media the way you’re actually supposed to and not as a platform for party-political rhetoric.

4. Buzz Aldrin

In 1969, Buzz Aldrin became the second person to walk on the moon. But what has he done for us lately? He’s maintained a robust social media presence on multiple platforms, that’s what! The 94-year-old former astronaut is most active on his Facebook page, where he posts a lot of content about aviation history. We encourage him to post the 2002 video of him teaching a conspiracy theorist that the moon landing was real.

5. Dolly Parton

Water is wet, the sky is blue, and Dolly Parton is delightful. These immutable laws of science are ironclad, but when there’s a drought and the sky is cloudy, only Dolly Parton and her social media presence emerge victorious. The 77-year-old singer, actor, and gift to the human race is active on Facebook and X, but we mainly recommend seeking her out on Instagram, where her feed is regularly updated with current photos, vintage images, and of course videos of her performing throughout the years.

6. Mandy Patinkin

Actor Mandy Patinkin has official accounts on Facebook and X, as well as one on Instagram that he keeps private, always the smart move. The 71-year-old actor and singer seems to post equally to both platforms, and the majority of the content consists of videos starring himself and his wife, actor and writer Kathryn Grody. Most of the videos take place in their kitchen as they try out new recipes, and Kathryn Grody also occasionally pottery-centric videos. If all the bile, noise, and rage on social media is too much for you, Patinkin and Grody’s account is pleasant and refreshing.

7. Jacques Pépin

Chef Jacques Pépin is 88 years old and more active than people half his age. You’d think he has his hands full with cooking alone, but more than 60 years after serving as personal chef to French former President Charles de Gaulle, he maintains a very active social media presence on X. The best place to virtually visit him is on Instagram, where he shares cooking videos. His Facebook page says that his daughter Claudine is its administrator, but if that’s the case on all of his platforms, she’s doing a very good job.

8. William Shatner

William “Captain Kirk” Shatner is all over social media, maintaining profiles on all the usual platforms. The 92-year-old actor is on Instagram and Facebook, where he mostly promotes his latest work, but we’re going to break with tradition and recommend that you visit him on X, where his bio says “*NOT POLITICAL* be warned or be blocked!” meaning you don’t have to read anyone’s angry hot takes there.

9. James Woods

While some people may want to avoid politics on social media, others use it specifically to have political fights and fuel their rage addictions. So if you’re a conservative who wants beliefs reinforced or a liberal who enjoys getting really, really angry, we suggest you make your way over to the X profile of former actor James Woods. The 76-year-old retired from the silver screen a while ago, so he now has more time to spend ragefully thumb-typing the word “commie” into his iPhone.

10. Steve Martin

Comedian and national treasure Steve Martin has official accounts on Facebook and Instagram, just like many of his fellow compatriots on this list. The 78-year-old actor, comedian, and musician’s official Facebook page is a wealth of comedy and banjos, with some real estate given to his Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.” If you want to visit him on X, you will have to give equal time to fellow septuagenarian and "Only Murders in the Building" costar Martin Short, who shares the account with him.

11. Dionne Warwick

The most surprising winner of the Social Media Shade Queen sweepstakes is none other than singer Dionne Warwick, who is 83 years old and shows no signs of mellowing with age. She’s on the Face place and Instagram, but the most frequent source of entertainment is her X profile,  where she is unexpectedly salty and says things like, “I just heard about Leonardo DiCaprio’s 25 year rule. His loss. You don’t know what you’re missing.”
