Liam Neeson's new action movie Retribution has confirmed a Sky Cinema release, with a first thrilling trailer debuting too.

The upcoming film sees the Taken star play a US businessman in Berlin who receives a call one day while driving his kids to school – there's a bomb underneath his seat that will detonate unless he carries out a series of tasks.

Going by the trailer, we're set for a tense ride, as the star declares at one point: "There's one thing you didn't think about – what a man will do when he's got nothing to lose."

The full synopsis reads: "Matt Turner (Neeson) is a successful Berlin-based American businessman juggling a booming financial career with family responsibility.

"Driving his kids to school one morning, Matt receives a phone call from a mysterious voice: there's a bomb under his seat that will detonate unless he completes a specific series of tasks, and fast.

"Trapped in their car in a high-speed chase across the city, Matt must follow the stranger's increasingly dangerous instructions in a race against time to protect his family and solve the mystery that plays out over the course of one day."

Retribution has been confirmed to premiere on Sky Cinema and NOW in the autumn, and boasts an impressive wider cast including The Little Mermaid's Noma Dumezweni, Wonder Woman: 1984's Lilly Aspell, Avatar: The Way of Water's Jack Champion, The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Embeth Davidtz and Stranger Things' Matthew Modine.

Based on the 2015 Spanish film El Desconocido, the movie is directed by Nimród Antal and written by Christopher Salmanpour.

Retribution premieres on Sky Cinema and NOW in the autumn.
