Lia Thomas Dominates At NCAA Championship Qualifiers
Penn swimmer Lia Thomas has officially qualified for the 500-yard freestyle final at the NCAA women’s swimming and diving championships.
It’s been reported that Thomas finished her qualifier in 4 minutes, 33.82 seconds.
Thomas, a transgender woman, wasn’t initially sure if she’d be able to compete at the NCAA championships. Once she got clearance, her sights were set on dominating the event.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Thomas over the past few months.
Earlier this week, a member on the University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming team said Thomas’ participation is “ruining the integrity of the sport.”
“It’s not necessarily an achievement in my mind,” Thomas’ teammate told Fox News. “Women’s records are separate from men’s records. It’s its own distinct category because no woman is going to be as fast as a man, and here is just completely – we’re just throwing away the definition of a record to fit into someone else’s agenda of what it should mean to them when in reality it makes no scientific sense to do so.”
It’s been reported that protesters from the organization Save Women’s Sports were present at Thomas’ qualifier this Thursday to protest her participation.
It’s highly unlikely this is the last time we’ll hear about this situation.
