Which Lexington grocery, liquor stores will close for Memorial Day? See holiday hours
If you’re planning to catch up some errands on Memorial Day, whether that’s shopping for hot dog buns for the neighborhood cookout or picking up some flowers to honor a veteran in your life, knowing what’s open can save time.
We’ve called around to gather a list of holiday hours and closings for several Lexington grocery stores. Plus, we’ve got information about changes to Lexington’s trash pick up times given the holiday weekend.
On a more general note, if you need to ship something or make a trip to the bank, Memorial Day will likely not be the time for that. Most banks are closed for the holiday, and all U.S. Postal Service locations are closed, as well. Both FedEx and UPS will also be closed, according to their websites.
What Central Kentucky grocery stores are open on Memorial Day?
These grocery and liquor stores will be open Memorial Day, May 27. In some cases, specific store hours may vary, so we recommend calling and planning ahead.
Walmart and Sam’s Club - open, though store hours may vary
Trader Joe’s - open, normal store hours 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Whole Foods - open, normal store hours 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Meijer - open, normal store hours 6 a.m. to midnight
Kroger - open, though hours may vary between stores
Target - open, store hours may vary
Total Wine & More - open, normal hours 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Liquor Barn - open, normal hours 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The following grocery stores are either closed for the holiday or close up early:
Aldi - store closes early at 6 p.m. Memorial Day
Costco Wholesale is closed Memorial Day
What to know about changes for Lexington trash pickup
There are some changes to trash pickup times in Lexington to be aware of for Memorial Day.
According to a notice from the city, residents and businesses that regularly get trash collection Monday will instead be served the Wednesday after the holiday. These individuals should place their carts out on the curb Tuesday evening to have their trash picked up the next day.
For businesses with dumpsters, service will be as follows:
Dumpsters collected Mondays will be picked up Tuesday, May 28
Dumpsters picked up Tuesdays will be collected Wednesday, the 29th
Thursday and Friday collection continues as normal
No city waste collection on Monday, May 27 due to Memorial Day.
