Lexington announces new parking for Distillery District. Here’s where the project is planned

If you’ve been angling for better parking in Lexington’s popular Distillery District, you’re in luck.

Friday, Mayor Linda Gorton’s office announced a new, 25-spot parking lot will be added near the intersection of Manchester Street and Forbes Road.

“We originally purchased this property as part of (the) Town Branch Trail,” Gorton said in a news release. “When the original alignment of the trail changed, we had this property left over. The public frequently asks for more parking in the Distillery District. This is a step in the right direction.”

The district is home to a number of businesses, many of which inhabit revitalized industrial space, including the James E. Pepper Distillery, the Barrel House Distillery and other attractions.

According to the mayor’s office, paving the lot will cost about $195,000 and the project will also add a connection to the Town Branch Trail. Federal funds will cover the cost of the effort.

A spokesperson from the mayor’s office said the new parking lot will be ready in September.
