It began with wife's shocking discovery
On Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, after Denice Mohn's screams alerted a neighbor to call the police, Middletown police arrived at Upper Orchard Drive to find a bloody, headless body and a nearby machete and large knife. The head would then be discovered shrouded in plastic in a cooking pot. Soon, authorities would learn of a gruesome YouTube video that would lead to further evidence in the death of Michael Mohn, a retired civil engineer.

Suspect apprehended 100 miles from Bucks County
The Fort Indiantown Gap Police Department in Lebanon County was contacted by Bucks County authorities, alerting them Justin Mohn’s cellphone location put him in their area. He was caught on the military facility base, a National Guard Training Center, after jumping the fence. He was peacefully taken into custody.

Suspect in Levittown beheading has written 7 books
Justin Mohn, charged with the killing and decapitation of his father, is a 32-year-old Penn State graduate who describes himself on social media as a musician, producer and author. He has since 2022 sued the U.S. Department of Education secretary Miguel Cordona and the U.S. Department of Education twice and last year sued the U.S. Attorney’s Office and The Attorney General of the United States. His dissatisfaction with the federal government was evident in his 14 1/2-minute video rant in which he said. “All federal agents, US Marshals, federal judges and border patrol are to be killed or captured, tortured for information and publicly executed for betraying their country.”

Beheading fuels wild theories
Gab and 4Chan and other websites frequented by far-right conspiracy theorists quickly started a debate Tuesday night upon news of the beheading and subsequent YouTube video posted by Justin Mohn. Highly publicized and violent crimes are common targets for online conspiracy theorists, who in this case have been divided between alleging Mohn is a patsy or a federal agent.

Quiet Levittown neighborhood stunned
Upper Orchard residents said they did not know much of Justin Mohn, but described him as a walker. “He walked at all hours. He walked all day. He never stopped walking.” One man said Mohn seemed consumed by something. “Lost in his thoughts,” he said, adding, “basically a time bomb.”
