Letters to the Editor: Catholic Charities offers thanks and a word conundrum

Community makes food drive a success

Thank you, residents of Richland County!

Catholic Charities H.O.P.E. Food Pantry was blessed with close to 3,000 pounds of food from the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Stamp out Hunger Food Drive held on May 11.

We are extremely grateful for all of you who provided support to make this event successful. From donating food to volunteering your time to help sort and box food.

A special thank you to Doc Stumbo and Graham Auto Mall for help in transporting all the food to H.O.P.E. Pantry.

This year, Catholic Charities is celebrating 82 years in this community, and we are blessed each day by your kindness and generosity.

Words have meaning

How do we know anything, even if it doesn't involve us, and then we only know half of the story. We listen with ears that filter everything through a screen of who we are. This isn't just you, it's me. It's everyone we know. The whole world is inundated with words that people put out with no more authority than we heard it or think we heard it, or maybe interpreted something we think we saw. Again, it's not just you it's me.

The damage that's done with these interpretations of what we think we might have heard or saw is irreversible. We have always been like this, but with social media it's exploded. We are not less of a person if we don't know everything.
