Letter to the Editor: Let's put an end to gerrymandering in Ohio

Gerrymandering needs to end in Ohio

As a college student at Ohio University Zanesville and a regional affairs senator in the OU Student Senate, I am deeply invested in the future of our state and the integrity of our democratic processes. I am compelled to address the pervasive issue of gerrymandering in Ohio — a fundamental flaw in our political system that undermines the principles of fair representation. The Citizens Not Politicians Amendment proposes a vital correction to this issue. By establishing the Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission, it aims to ensure district lines are drawn fairly, without partisan interference, making every vote count and every voice heard.I urge my fellow Ohioans, especially my peers in Zanesville and at Ohio University, to join me in supporting this crucial initiative. It's not just about redrawing lines; it's about reshaping our future to reflect true democracy. Please visit citizensnotpoliticians.org/petition to learn more about the amendment, sign the petition and volunteer.Together, we can ensure our state’s politics are just and representative, not just for some, but for all Ohioans. Our engagement can drive change, ensuring our democracy remains vibrant and fair for generations to come.
