Let’s go to the video: No live Bruce Springsteen this weekend at annual Asbury Park, N.J. benefit show

Bruce Springsteen’s greetings from Asbury Park this weekend will come via videotape.

Organizers of an annual Jersey Shore benefit concert for Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s disease plan to show a clip Saturday from the Boss’ performance last January at the Light of Day show, where Springsteen has been an unannounced guest over the years.

The 71-year-old “Born in the USA” rocker has yet to speak publicly about his Nov. 14 arrest for DWI at a Jersey Shore federal park, with court documents indicating Springsteen was glassy-eyed and smelled of booze before declining to take a breathalyzer test at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, N.J.

A phone message and an email to Springsteen’s attorney were not returned Friday.

Springsteen, who lives about 12 miles from the park, was charged with driving while intoxicated, consuming alcohol in a closed area and reckless driving, after a park ranger spotted the multiplatinum selling rock superstar downing a shot of tequila before climbing aboard his Triumph motorcycle.

Springsteen will be shown performing with Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers from last year’s show, where he joined the band at the Paramount Theater for a nine-song set including version of his classics “Atlantic City,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town” and “Light of Day.”

The initial announcement of his spot in the show was unclear about whether he might appear in person. This year’s benefit will be aired online, with assorted artists performing and no live audience.
