Let the self-serve frozen yogurt renaissance commence: Cuppa Yo opens this weekend

Remember back in the early 2010s, when self-serve frozen yogurt shops like Orange Leaf and CherryBerry were on every corner?

The number of such shops, where people can fill cups full of flavored frozen yogurt then pile on the toppings, is much smaller now: The roster really includes just PeachWave at 10096 E. 13th St. and Yo-B at 303 N. Mead.

But a new one arrives in Andover on Saturday. Catrina and Justin Hubbard, both Boeing employees, are opening a franchise of an Oregon-based frozen yogurt business called Cuppa Yo at 626 S. Andover Road, in a strip center near the Dillons there.

At Cuppa Yo, people fill their cups with frozen yogurt and toppings then pay by the ounce.

The shop’s grand opening starts at 11 a.m. Saturday with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting. It will then offer 20% off all day, and 10 different flavors will be available, including cookie butter, pineapple Dole Whip, cotton candy and Alpine vanilla. Dairy free and no-sugar-added options also are available.

The shop, whose founders just started franchising last year, will feature a bank of frozen yogurt machines. People will fill their cups as full as they want with yogurt and toppings then pay by the ounce. The new Cuppa Yo will feature both inside and outside seating.

The shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The Hubbards say they plan to eventually open four Cuppa Yo stores in the area and are thinking about expanding into Derby and the Wichita State University area.
