Keeping up with the latest design trends can be a never-ending battle, so it’s refreshing to see a longtime favorite embrace its enduring legacy. Lee Jofa, known for its revolutionary textile techniques and classic prints, marks 200 years with a collection that can be summed up in one word: timeless.

The 200th Anniversary Collection boasts a compilation of fabrics, wallcoverings, carpets and furniture in a robust array of 16 classic prints that transport us through decades of design. Each fabric featured in the collection comes in two new re-colorations that give these enduring prints a contemporary lens.

Colors like denim, berry, golden, moss, slate and clay intermingle with the prints that are a mix of current staples and archival favorites—including Floral Bouquet, which was featured in the home of the Prince of Chintz, Mario Buatta.

“Lee Jofa’s 200 year anniversary collection reimagines an eclectic assortment of beautiful designs offered by the company over its illustrious history as one of America’s most treasured decorative fabric resources,” explains Lee Jofa’s Creative Director Stephen Elrod. “We were inspired to translate these important designs through qualities, constructions and colors in a manner relevant to today's interiors.”

Aside from offering updated colorways, the featured patterns are also getting new treatments. For the first time, Tree of Life and Hollyhock—an all-time favorite of interior design icon Bunny Williams—will be offered as wallcoverings. Other updates include Chinese Brocade offered in a lush new satin treatment and the lattice-filled Strapwork Print in scoured linen.

“When looking back at the previous eras of Lee Jofa fabrics, wallpapers and trimmings, we’re confident that today’s interior designers and their clients will sense the classic nature of the collection and how they will be cherished for generations to come,” says Elrod.

With origins dating back to 1823, innovation has always been at the heart of Lee Jofa. In the 1800s, Arthur H. Lee—the Lee in Lee Jofa—discovered the greater potential and layering capabilities of the Jacquard loom, adding more color and depth to patterned designs. This spirit of adaptation additionally encouraged the revival of hand-colored tapestries which went out of vogue during the Victorian era. Now, Elrod wants that legacy to continue.

“Our goal is to keep upholding the values of craftsmanship and luxury that have gotten us to this point, and to keep inspiring generations of designers to come,” says Elrod.

While 2023 marks the bicentennial of Lee Jofa, the legendary brand has transformed a great deal over the last two centuries, adapting with the times to remain relevant in the world of design. We cannot wait to see what the next 200 years will bring.
