LeBron James Reacts To Jay Williams’ Brutal Mistake

Jay Williams took to Twitter on Wednesday to comment on the Boston Celtics’ hiring of Ime Udoka as the organization’s new head coach. Unfortunately, he made a major mistake, calling Udoka the “first head coach of color” in franchise history.

“The first head coach of color for the Celtics… & even more importantly… he is one talented individual who has paid his dues,” Williams tweeted.

Williams quickly deleted his post because it’s horribly inaccurate. Bill Russell, Tom Sanders, K.C. Jones, M.L. Carr and Doc Rivers all came before Udoka, with Rivers being the Celtics coach as recently as 2013. Williams forgetting these accomplished and noteworthy coaches was stunning to say the least and drew out some fierce criticism of the longtime NBA analyst.

Others were incredulous that the ESPN personality and former NCAA champion actually tweeted what he did. LeBron James was among that group that wondered if Williams’ tweet was photoshopped because of its obvious inaccuracy.

“Has to be right!?!? It better be,” James tweeted in response to another user.

James joined a collection of other fans who couldn’t believe that Williams’ tweet was real. Screenshots of the since deleted post confirmed that the ESPN analyst did in fact make the major mistake.

Williams has yet to comment on the error and obviously didn’t mean the tweet to be a slight to the many Black Celtics coaches that came before Udoka. However, an apology for the factually incorrect comment would be appreciated by diehard fans of the franchise.
