The dynamic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Los Angeles is now a big three.

With a blockbuster draft-day trade on Thursday, the Lakers sent Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, last night’s No. 22 overall pick, a 2024 second round and a 2028 second-round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for superstar point guard Russell Westbrook.

LeBron was clearly thrilled by the move.

Right after the trade was made official, The King posted a photo on Instagram in celebration.

“~ x Brodie x [crown emoji],” he wrote over a photoshopped photo of the Lakers new big three, representing each of the superstars’ nicknames.

Westbrook himself is likely excited about this move as well. Not only does he get a legitimate shot to compete for his first NBA title, but also a chance to do it in a familiar place. Born and raised in the LA area and attending UCLA from 2006-08, the nine-time All Star should be comfortable taking his talents to the West Coast.

While Westbrook is no doubt a talented player (set NBA record for all-time triple-doubles this past season), questions have been raised about his fit with the Lakers. Heading into this coming season, LA’s biggest need boiled down to pure-shooting wings who can space the floor for James and Davis.

With a 31.5 three-point shooting percentage and a drive-first mentality, Westbrook does little to fill that need.

The Lakers were recently linked to trade talks involving Kings’ pure-shooting guard Buddy Hield, but it appears the front office may have exhausted all of their trade pieces in pursuit of Westbrook.

That being said, the 2017 league MVP does fill one need. With starting point guard Dennis Schroder seemingly halfway out the door in free agency, the Lakers were in dire need of a player to take some of the primary ball-handling burden off of LeBron. In this past season for the Wizards, Westbrook averaged an NBA-best 11.7 assists per game.

Now playing for his fourth team in four years, Westbrook will likely look to find a longterm home in Los Angeles.
