Leave the van, take the cannoli? KC Italian restaurant says ‘Cannoli Mobile’ stolen

Jasper Mirabile, an owner of Jasper’s Italian Restaurant in Kansas City, posted online that the business’ “Cannoli Mobile” was stolen on Sunday afternoon.

Mirabile shared surveillance footage in a Facebook post of a car driving into the restaurant’s parking lot, at 1201 W. 103rd Street, and stopping by the business’ white van. The car and the restaurant’s van then both drove off, heading east down 103rd Street at around 4:42 p.m. on Sunday, he wrote in the post.

Mirabile is asking for help finding the van, requesting that anyone who spots the cannoli van report it to the Kansas City Police Department.

“We like to celebrate National Cannoli Month and they kind of put a damper (on) it,” Mirabile told The Star. “I like to celebrate this month and pass out cannoli in the van to all essential workers, the police department, fire department and hospitals.

“It’s not like it’s the end of the world. It was just kind of nostalgic and fun ... There are bigger problems in this world, but we’re grateful for everyone’s concern and healthy looking for (the van).”

The restaurant has a long history in Kansas City, first opening in 1954 as a small neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar by Leonardo Mirabile and his son, Jasper, according to its website. In 1984, the family opened Marco Polo’s Groceria, an Italian grocery store, delicatessen and pizzeria around the corner.

The restaurant is now operated by Jasper’s two sons, Leonard and Jasper Jr.
