One person killed, 2 injured in shooting at Amazon warehouse in Jacksonville

A 20-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting at an Amazon warehouse in Jacksonville, Fla. Monday afternoon.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department said three suspects drove up to the warehouse around 2 p.m. and targeted the man who was killed, who was waiting with about six others outside to apply for a job in the facility, a fulfillment center.

The JSO believes the suspects, who fled the scene in a silver car, may have known the man who was killed.

“We’re trying to determine what the motive was why they were after this victim. We have about 10 eyewitnesses that were both inside and outside of the facility,” said JSO Assistant Chief Brian Kee. “This does not appear to be a workplace violent incident that you would normally associate with workplace violence or mass shootings.”

Two others, a 29-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, were both brazed and received treatment at the scene.

Employees remain in lockdown inside the facility, according to social media posts, News4Jax reported.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” Timothy Cater, an Amazon spokesperson, told the Daily News. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and all those who have been impacted by this incident. We are working closely with the Sheriff as they investigate.”
