Lea Thompson Shares 2 'Devastating' Family Tragedies Within Months of Each Other

Lea Thompson recently had some difficult news to share regarding two members of her family.

This week, the Back to the Future alum took to Instagram to announce that both of her "beloved exceptional big brothers" were diagnosed with Parkinson's disease within just months of each other.

"It was such a devastating blow," Thompson, 62, said about the diagnoses. "We noticed that they were slowing down but never thought it could be this."

The actress also added some photos of her big bro's in the post, including a selfie of all three of the siblings playing golf together, and another snap of the two brothers embracing each other.

Despite the difficult news, Thompson is doing her best to stay positive, noting that new research allowed for early diagnosis for both of her brothers, which she said has "really really helped them."

Thompson also made a point to shout out the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, an organization founded by her former Back to the Future co-star, who has been battling Parkinson's disease since 1991.

"I am honored to have had the opportunity to shoot a psa for their gala," she wrote in the caption, while adding some photos from behind the scenes of the campaign.

"And ironically we all won 50k on @familyfeud for @teamfoxmjff," she added, before concluding, "Thanks to the work of so many scientists, philanthropists small donors and my movie son, there is hope."

"Thank you Marty," she added, referencing Fox's character, Marty McFly, who played the on-screen son of her character, Lorraine Baines-McFly.
