Ahead of the long-running NBC procedural’s return, we’ve pulled together everything you could possibly want to know about what Capt. Olivia Benson and her squad will be up to in Season 25.
But first, a quick refresher on how Season 24 ended. In a Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime crossover event, Benson and Stabler and their teams — with an assist from Cosgrove, Shaw & Co. — tracked down the creator of a rape-and-murder-for-hire website.
After the site put out a hit on Stabler and Benson, Olivia was shot in the hip during an attack at a diner. (She survived.) Stabler joined the team that eventually cornered and captured the site creator, albeit not without a major casualty. (R.I.P. Organized Crime‘s Det. Whelan.) Back at the precinct in New York, Det. Muncy packed her things and left to take a new job, and Stabler swung by Benson’s office to give her a gift before taking off for a new undercover assignment. Oh, and near the end of Season 24, we learned that former Det. Amanda Rollins and new husband Assistant District Attorney Dominic “Sonny” Carisi were expecting their first child together. We also found out that while Rollins enjoyed teaching criminal justice at Fordham University, she missed the rush of working with the police department.
Now that you’re all caught up, here’s everything we know about the upcoming season of SVU. DUN-DUN!
1. When is Law & Order: SVU returning?
Law & Order: SVU will return for Season 25 on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 9/8c. Law & Order‘s Season 23 premiere will precede it at 8 pm, and Law & Order: Organized Crime‘s Season 4 premiere will follow at 10 pm.
2. What will Law & Order: SVU Season 25 be about?
As it stands, there’s not a lot of information out there about what will happen during SVU‘s upcoming Season 25. The premiere episode is titled “Tunnel Blind,” and the description reads: “As the squad celebrates the birth of Rollins and Carisi’s child, another child goes missing in broad daylight.” Speaking of Carisi and Rollins…
3. Will Kelli Giddish appear in Law and Order: SVU this season as Amanda Rollins?
Yes, Kelli Giddish will appear as Rollins in SVU Season 25. In December, TVLine exclusively reported that Giddish would return for the Season 25 premiere. The appearance will be Giddish’s second since she left the show in December 2022.
The last time we saw Rollins, she was pregnant with her third child, which was also her first with new husband Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi. Rollins’ pregnancy coincided with Giddish’s real-life one: In June 2023, the actress and husband Beau Richards welcomed a son, Oldie.
4. Which actors are returning for Season 25 of Law & Order: SVU?
It’s likely that SVU‘s Season 25 squad room will look pretty similar to Season 24’s, with returning cast members Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Peter Scanavino and Octavio Pisano. Molly Burnett, who played Det. Grace Muncy in Season 24, will not return; Muncy left the squad after she was asked to join a special task force in the season finale.
5. Who will guest-star in Law & Order: SVU Season 25?
The famously guest-star-heavy series will host several notable faces in Season 25, including David Krumholtz (Numb3rs, The Deuce) and Amy Carlson (Blue Bloods, Third Watch).
6. What happens in the trailer for Law & Order: SVU Season 25?
“We’re going to find your daughter,” Capt. Benson promises a distraught mother in the Season 25 preview, which also serves as a promo for the returns of Law & Order and Law & Order: Organized Crime. We later hear Olivia say, “This girl was targeted,” just before the missing girl’s mother screams, “You promised me you’d find my daughter!” At the end of the spot, a man in an interrogation room asks Benson, “Can I go home now?” and she replies, “That’s not how this works.” Watch the entire preview in full by pressing PLAY on the video above.
