Laura Dern Made a Cameo in The White Lotus Season 2 Premiere
During the season two premiere of The White Lotus, viewers meet an entirely new cast of characters, (plus, Jennifer Coolidge, who returns as Tanya). One storyline of the show's second chapter focuses on three generations of an Italian American family: Bert (F. Murray Abraham), his son Dominic (Michael Imperioli), and his grandson, Albie (Adam DiMarco).
In the opening episode, Dominic, who is clearly going through marital troubles, calls up his wife. The conversation doesnt go well, and his wife, Abby, starts yelling at him, and cursing him out. Viewers thought they recognized Laura Dern—and this week, HBO confirmed that the actress who played Dominic's screaming ex was in fact Laura Dern.
It's unclear whether or not Dern's Abby will make an actual appearance at the White Lotus: Sicily this season, though many fans are hoping that she will show up. "That Laura Dern voice cameo in the WHITE LOTUS premiere better be an appetizer to her appearance later this season," Evan Ross Katz tweeted.

As Tom Smyth wrote in Vulture, "Nobody conveys exasperation better than her, even over the phone, but unfortunately for us, it doesn’t sound like her character wants any more phone calls."
Imperioli, too, is a fan of his fictional partner, devoting a full feed post to her on his Instagram, writing, "the absolutely magnificent LAURA DERN plays my wife in the new season of THE WHITE LOTUS. Although (so far) she has only been heard on the phone and not seen, her performance is a standout among many great ones in the White Lotus troupe. LaDern can do more with voice alone than most can do with everything else. She’s genius."
Dern is a longtime collaborator of White Lotus creator Mike White; she starred in his show Enlightened from 2011 to 2013.
