Series two of The Last of Us star Anna Torv's Australian drama The Newsreader is set to air on the BBC.

The six-part series stars Torv alongside Interview with the Vampire star Sam Reid as newsreaders Helen Norville and Dale Jennings, respectively. It will air on BBC Two and iPlayer later this autumn.

Set a year after the events of series one, series two will follow Helen and Dale, now established as 'The Golden Couple of News'. Though the pair appear to be the picture of professional and romantic success, things are more complex beneath the surface.

While Dale impresses the new CEO Charlie Tate (played by Daniel Gillies), Helen's mission to pursue hard-hitting interviews sees her butting heads with Charlie.

"As 1987 rolls along, global stocks will soar and crash, Australia will prepare to celebrate its Bicentennial year, and Helen and Dale grapple with who they really want to be in life — and whether that path can be together," reads the official description for series two.

Returning alongside Torv and Reid are Longmire's Robert Taylor, Five Bedrooms star Stephen Peacocke, Unfinished Sky's William McInnes, Lady Dynamite actor Chum Ehelepola, Utopia's Michelle Lim Davidson, The New Legends of Monkey star Chai Hansen and Top of the Lake: China Girl's Marg Downey.

They'll be joined by new cast members for series two, including Home and Away star Philippa Northeast, Virgin River's Daniel Gillies and Vampire Academy's Rory Fleck Byrne.

Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition for the BBC, said of the series two news: "Following the great success of series one, we couldn't be more excited to welcome back the News at Six team and watch Helen and Dale navigate their ever more complicated personal lives whilst dealing with the pressures of covering the big news events of 1987."

The Newsreader series one is available to stream now on BBC iplayer.
