Seven Kings Must Die spoilers follow.

The Last Kingdom star Alexander Dreymon has weighed in on Uhtred of Bebbanburg's fate following the "ambiguous" ending of Seven Kings Must Die.

The feature-length conclusion to the story started streaming on Netflix last week, with the actor now addressing the fate of his hero, who's last seen on his deathbed in the finale.

Being injured in the Battle of Brunanburh, Uhtred returns to his ancestral home of Bebbanburg, where he thinks of the prophecy foretold by Ingrith – that seven kings must die, including him.

Torn between visions of Valhalla and the world of the living, Uhtred's fate is left unknown.

"I'm actually very happy with the way that it ends because there's that ambiguity," Dreymon told RadioTimes.com.

"You see everything that he's fought for his whole life and he's believed in… because the idea of Valhalla and heaven has been such a big character in the show in a way.

"And that he has the option of going to the feast hall – that he aches for so much – is beautiful to see. But it really shows that he's a man who's had a full life and who is loved by the people who are still there."

The actor reassured fans, saying it's "all going to be okay" for Uhtred, whichever way he chooses.

He said: "It's such a big thing for him to have that choice. To be able to decide: 'Do I stay with the people that I love here or do I stay with the people that I love there?'

"And ultimately, it's all going to be okay."

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is available to watch now on Netflix.
