A Las Vegas man faces three felony charges for allegedly pulling another guest from the elevator at a downtown Kansas City hotel, forcing her into his room and raping her, according to charging documents.

Alejandro Carrillo, 41, is accused of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sodomy in Jackson County Circuit Court. A warrant for his arrest was issued by the court last week, and a defense attorney made an initial appearance on Carrillo’s behalf on Thursday.

The criminal charges stem from a reported incident that occurred on Oct. 9 inside Hotel Kansas City at 1228 Baltimore Ave. According to court documents, Kansas City police were contacted by a hotel manager who said a guest had shown up in the lobby overnight, fully naked and asking for help.

Surveillance footage from the hotel showed an elevator ride where a woman, identified by her initials in court documents, is seen being grabbed and kissed by a man, police later identified as Carrillo, as she tries to push him away. After the elevator arrived on the 13th floor, authorities allege the video shows her “actively resisting” as she is pulled off the elevator and down the hallway out of camera view.

“Approximately 30 minutes later, (the victim) appears running into a stairwell nude, only wearing one sock,” a detective wrote in charging documents for Carrillo. She then gets inside an elevator and “can be seen clearly in distress.”

During a police interview, the alleged victim told detectives she was at the bar a couple of seats away from a man who asked her to come up to his room and watch a movie. She told them he made other requests, including a kiss and to take a picture together.

The next thing she could clearly remember was standing outside of a hotel room door as he kept trying to kiss her, she told detectives. Her memory went “black” for a short time, she said, until she was pulled into his room and assaulted.

The woman told police she fought as he took off her clothes and raped her. She recalled scratching his back because she was thinking “I need to get his DNA under my nails,” according to the charging documents.

She described being able to get free when he went to the bathroom, leaving all of her belongings behind in the room as she sought help from the hotel manager.

Hotel management visited Carrillo’s room the following morning as he was being removed from the property. He allegedly told detectives that he and the woman had kissed consensually and gotten undressed but that she “suddenly panicked” and left the room.

Belongings of the woman, including a credit card, were found inside the hotel. Detectives say Carrillo voluntarily provided photographs on his cell phone, including a picture of the woman’s driver’s license, and showed them “several large scratches” that covered “the majority of his back”

Authorities say he also consented to provide a sample of his DNA to be compared with evidence collected through a sexual assault examination performed at a hospital.

In an emailed statement, a defense attorney for Carrillo declined to comment on the case.
