Larry David’s Final ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Season Is a Bittersweet Ride

NOT EVERYONE IS ready to admit it, but we've all got a little Larry David in us. The master curmudgeon and former co-creator of Seinfeld has been airing his social grievances (as Jerry Stiller's Frank Costanza from Seinfeld might say) on TV ever since his 1999 HBO special Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm gave way to Season 1 of Curb the very next year. And while you may find yourself fully-opposed to some of Larry's hard-line stances (take your pick!), chances are, there are at least a few times in any given season where you'll find yourelf thinking You know what... he's kind of right on this one.

David has spoken about the end of Curb, the largely-improvised show that's shot with a camera style that feels less like cinema and more like you're in the room with your fun but grumpy rich friend, before. In fact, the Season 5 finale, titled "The End," even featured an extended sequence where Larry dies and is visited by a pair of angels played by Dustin Hoffman and Sacha Baron Cohen; of course, he eventually gets into a pointless argument with them and is sent back to annoy his friends on earth for at least a little bit longer.

But Season 12, coming 25 years after David's special first aired on HBO, is truly being sold as the end of Curb. “Twelve seasons–that’s a lot for a television show–over 24 years. It was time,” he told Variety at the season's premiere. “Yeah, I said it before. But I wasn’t 76 when I said it.”

76! You wouldn't be able to tell that from David's appearance—he looks almost exactly the same as when the show launched—or from the energy with which he carries himself both on and off the show (seriously; check out this clip of him fighting Elmo during daytime TV for some reason). The man has a pep in his step!

Curb Your Enthusiasm could go on for eternity if it was up to the fans. But we're glad that David gets to end the long-running show on his own terms—and that we get 10 more chances to laugh along with him, whether we agree with whatever nonsense he gets himself into or not.
