LANSING — Firefighters rescued a dog early Friday from a burning two-story home just north of downtown.

The Lansing Fire Department said no one was injured — including the husky/pit mix — in the house fire at 321 W. Shiawassee St. at about 4:30 a.m. Friday. The LFD estimated the blaze caused $75,000 in damage to the wood-frame structure.

Firefighters encountered "heavy fire condition" on both the first and second floors when they arrived. They entered the home, the release said, and searched, finding the roughly 60-pound dog hiding on the first floor.

The resident of the home was outside then firefighters arrived.

"The dog seemed fine and went right to the resident after removal," Battalion Chief Steve Kilmon said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
