Lamborghini Launches Its Newest PHEV, the Urus SELamborghini

Lamborghini launched itself into electrification last year with the intoxicating 1,001-hp Revuelto plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Equipped with a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 enhanced by three electric motors, the Revuelto offers a nimble and thrilling ride commensurate with the Raging Bull’s reputation.

Now, the Italian supercar builder is taking its hybrid setup to its wildly popular Urus SUV. During Auto China Beijing week on Wednesday, Lamborghini unveiled the PHEV version of the vehicle, the Urus SE. Delivering 789 horsepower through the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 and a single electric motor next to the transmission, the Urus SE is poised to sell in a market that appears to be increasingly interested in hybrid options.

Capable of about 30 miles of all-electric four-wheel-drive range (in average temperatures), the Urus SE could ostensibly tackle light EV off-roading if you’re inclined to take your $250,000 SUV into the dirt.

Inside, the Urus SE includes some key upgrades, like a 12.3-inch screen with updated graphics to match the Revuelto’s. Aside from the new display and some redesigned air vents, the cockpit-style interior remains, including the iconic red flip-up cover over the start button.

The exterior also received some updates, cribbing cues from the Revuelto’s floating hood. Sporting a wider back end, new diffuser, and rear mesh inspired by the Gallardo, the Urus SE may look even more planted and muscular than its gas-powered sibling. Two new colors are available—Arancio Egon (orange) and Bianco Sapphirus (white)—along with more than 100 finish options.

With a redesigned cargo area and spoiler, the Urus SE achieves an impressive 35 percent more downforce than the Urus S. The new hybrid SUV rides on standard 23-inch Galanthus rims wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires, and Scorpion Winter 2s are available for winter driving.

After taking the Revuelto for a spin last fall on the Autodromo Vallelunga track in Rome last fall and being duly impressed, I’m looking forward to putting the Urus SE to the test in the near future.
