Lakes surge following heavy rain

Wichita Falls lakes got a huge boost from heavy rainfall over the weekend.

The combined level for lakes Arrowhead and Kickapoo rose 3.5 percent.

The city said the the combined total now stands at 59 percent of capacity, not quite enough to get out of Stage 1 Drought Watch water use restrictions.

The combined level for lakes Arrowhead and Kickapoo rose 3.5 percent.

Lake Arrowhead rose to 58.6 percent and Lake Kickapoo to 60.1 percent. Lake Kemp, which provides a portion of the city's water, was 79.4 percent full Monday.

The city said the lakes will likely continue to see more water as runoff continues. Adjusted totals show Wichita Falls officially received 3.48 inches from storms on Saturday. That brings the total precipitation so far in 2024 to nearly 14 inches, which is about twice the normal amount.

The region has a chance for more rain this week. The National Weather Service forecasts thunderstorms to begin Tuesday night and continue for the remainder of the week.
