Lakers Reportedly Considered Another Big Offseason Trade
Earlier this offseason, the San Antonio Spurs traded star guard DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls.
Chicago traded Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a protected first-round Draft pick and two second-round draft picks to San Antonio. However, DeRozan was nearly traded to a different team.
According to a report from The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly interested in the California native. He reportedly even met with LeBron James about a potential pairing.
Unfortunately for Los Angeles, the Lakers and Spurs couldn’t come to an agreement. After talks fell through, the Spurs shipped him to the Bulls instead.

One of those potential moves involved DeMar DeRozan, a Compton, Calif., native and former USC star. He took part in two such meetings at LeBron James’ home and had separate ongoing phone conversations with James. His conversations with the Lakers co-stars had gone well, with the then-soon-to-be free agent discussing all the ways in which he thought this new star trio might work.
DeRozan is a four-time All-Star and seemingly would have fit perfectly in the Lakers offense. Unfortunately for the Lakers, though, the Spurs clearly weren’t interested in Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
The Lakers instead added a few elder statesmen in the league like Carmelo Anthony and DeAndre Jordan.
