Lady Gaga’s Voice Is Nearly Unrecognizable in New Rolling Stones Song ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’

We didn’t think Lady Gaga could top “Shallow” from A Star Is Born…until now.

The 37-year-old singer recently teamed up with Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones for a brand-new song, titled “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” The track is the second single from the Stones’ upcoming album, Hackney Diamonds, and it features vocals from Gaga like we’ve never heard before.

The song (listen above) is seven minutes of pure bliss. Mick Jagger opens with powerful vocals that are set to a soothing arrangement by Wonder. “I hear the sweet, sweet sounds of Heaven, fallin' down, fallin' down to this earth,” he sings.

Gaga makes her debut at the 1:50 mark, but if you aren’t expecting it, you may mistake her for someone else. Her voice is nearly recognizable as she echoes Jagger’s lyrics in a soft, high-pitched tone.

In an interview with Sky News, Stones member Ronnie Wood explained how the collaboration came to be. The band was working on a different project when they crossed paths with Gaga, who was also in the area for work. “She was sitting on the floor in the studio, and Mick said, ‘Don’t just sit there and hum. Get up. Let’s record this,’” Wood recalled. “She’s lovely. She’s very talented.”

Mick Jagger also discussed Gaga’s talent in an interview with Apple Music. “We did it live in the room, and that was a great experience, her just coming in the room and her just opening up and seeing her bits and feeling her way and then getting more confident,” he said. “And then we came back and then did some extra parts that we hadn’t done on the day and then we did some tidying up and we were just in the overdub room, really face-to-face, getting them really tight, the parts really tight, and then being slightly competitive and screaming.”
