Lacrosse: Historic upset brings new No. 1 to North Jersey rankings
A historic upset in girls lacrosse has prompted a major change in the North Jersey lacrosse rankings.
Immaculate Heart takes over at No. 1 for the first time in program history after defeating Ridgewood, 12-11, on Saturday in the Bergen County Tournament final. The victory ended a pair of streaks for the Maroons, who had won all 18 county titles up until that point and 138 straight matches against Bergen County opponents.
That was not the only county match with big ramifications for the Blue Eagles after being ranked No. 3 last week. IHA advanced to the final by knocking off then-No. 2 Northern Highlands to avenge a regular-season loss.
Meanwhile, the West Milford girls climbed into the Top 10 for the first time all season on the heels of its first county title.
