Laconia girls basketball clinches third consecutive Flyway championship with win over Omro

ROSENDALE - After trailing by as many as four points in the first half, Laconia (18-2, 11-0) clamped the Foxes with a stifling second-half defensive performance to complete their "three-peat," clinching the Flyway conference championship for the third consecutive season in outright fashion with a 64-47 victory over Omro (11-8, 6-4).

Aubrey Leonard led the Spartans with a game-high 16 points and Callista Vande Berg followed with 14.

Tierney Madigan and Payton Morgan each tacked on 10 points for Laconia. Madigan is now only 10 points short of reaching 1000 for her career.

Madeline Brooks scored 14 points to lead the Foxes.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 2 (D-3) Waupun 64, Berlin 19

WAUPUN - The No. 2-ranked Warriors (18-2, 9-1 East Central) put on a dominant performance against Berlin (12-8, 4-5) to pick up the conference win.

Rowan Harder scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the first half to lead Waupun and Lydia Aalsma added 14 points, including 12 in the first half, for the Warriors.

Gracie Gopalan chipped in with a team-high six assists and three steals to go with her nine points.

Kayl Petersen, recently named a Ms. Basketball finalist by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, finished with four points, on 2-of-9 shooting, and 13 rebounds.

Claire Bartol led Berlin with 10 points and five rebounds.

Winnebago Lutheran 60, Mayville 39

FOND DU LAC - Although a somewhat "too-close-for-comfort" first half, the Vikings (13-5, 7-4 Flyway) tightened up their defense to pull away by plenty in a 21-point blowout of the Cardinals (3-15, 2-8).

A back-and-forth game early, WLA settled on an eight-point lead at the break. The Vikings came out in the second half hot, scoring the first eight points to grow their lead to 16 en route to a 21-point victory.

Every player for WLA earned minutes on the floor and all but one contributed to the points column for a complete team win.

Abby Cole led the Vikings with a game-high 16 points and 17 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season.

Lindsey Nell added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for WLA and Lacey Keifenheim chipped in with seven points.

Addie Anderson scored 10 points to lead Mayville. Ellie Wojahn followed with nine points and Kyleigh Casper had eight for the Cardinals.

St. Mary's Springs 73, Campbellsport 30

CAMPBELLSPORT - The Ledgers (10-9, 4-6 Flyway) cruised to a conference victory over the Cougars (1-16, 0-10).

Anna Willis scored a game-high 14 points to lead Springs. Jasline Loynes and Olivia Kremer each added 13 points for the Ledgers.

Kaden Beck Sabish led Campbellsport with 13 points.

Lomira 64, North Fond du Lac 48

LOMIRA - In a tight battle early, the Lions (13-8, 7-4 Flyway) closed out the last six minutes of the first half on a 21-0 run to pull ahead of the Orioles (9-9, 4-5) comfortably and Lomira never looked back.

The Lions feasted at the free throw line, shooting 20-of-33 compared to just 7-of-14 for North Fondy.

Savanna Frea scored a game-high 18 points to lead Lomira. Piersten Litterick added 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Addison Zahn had 12 for the Lions.

Allison Now led the Orioles with 13 points and Lilly Roberts followed with nine for North Fondy.

Oakfield 61, Hustisford 6

OAKFIELD - The Oaks (16-3, 10-1 Trailways-East) nearly pulled off the un-thinkable - a shutout in basketball - by limiting the winless Falcons (0-17, 0-11) to single digits on the scoreboard in a 55-point blowout victory.

No. 7 (D-5) Lourdes Academy 47, Central Wisconsin Christian 30

WAUPUN - The Crusaders (7-11, 4-7 Trailways-East) fell behind by 18 points in the first half to the No. 7-ranked Knights (17-2, 11-0) and couldn't make up much ground in the blowout loss.

McKenzie Zuhlke led CWC with 10 points.

Hailee Bauer scored a game-high 17 points with six rebounds, three assists and four steals to lead Lourdes. Delaney Ruedinger and Ella Slusarski each added 10 points and combined for 11 more steals for the Knights' defense.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Waupun 76, Berlin 65

WAUPUN - The Warriors (12-6, 8-1 East Central) defeated Berlin (15-4, 5-3).

Wyatt Hamersma and Aaron Bartol each scored 16 points apiece, and Hamersma also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double, to lead Berlin. Carter Hess added 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Central Wisconsin Christian 60, Lourdes Academy 47

WAUPUN - The Crusaders (9-8, 6-3 Trailways-East) knocked off the first-place Knights (13-5, 8-3) to tighten the race in the conference standings.

JJ McKellips scored 23 points to lead Lourdes.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Warbirds 4, Lakeshore 1

FOND DU LAC - The Warbirds (13-6-1, 5-2-1 Eastern Shores) struck down the Lightning (11-7-2, 4-3-1) for a conference victory.

Olivia Dykema opened the game's scoring with a goal for Lakeshore, but that would be all they would get as the Warbirds rattled off four straight goals in response to pick up the win.

Chloe Tobin got the Warbirds on the board with a shorthanded goal, assisted by Josie Kooima, and Kayla Dogs took the lead with a goal on passes from Callie Rottman and Maddy Gilson.

After no score in the second period, Kristi Binder cashed in a power play goal on assist from Rottman and then Rottman scored herself on assists by Amanda Kabat and Allison Waara.

Emma Jillig made 13 saves for the Warbirds and Elizabeth Bowers had 24 saves for the Lightning.
