Lacey Chabert on recent death of her sister: ‘I keep calling grief a journey’

Lacey Chabert is opening up about the grief she's been experiencing since the death of her beloved older sister Wendy.

The “Mean Girls” star recently shared a throwback photo of herself and Wendy as children on Instagram.

"I can’t believe it’s been over two months since I’ve been able to hear my sister’s voice. I still reach for my phone ten times a day to text or call her before I remember that I can’t," wrote Chabert.

The Hallmark Channel star compared her grief to a "journey," one that finds her moods constantly changing, often moment by moment.

"I keep calling grief a journey, because that’s what it’s been for me. It’s been incredibly hard. Some moments I am ok and others I can barely catch my breath because my heart aches so deeply. I miss Wendy with every ounce of my being.

"I desperately wish I could hug her once more or hear her voice," she wrote.

Chabert went on to say that when she is "still enough," she believes she can hear Wendy's familiar voice.

"I hear it because she’s embedded in my every thought," she explained. "We were best friends who also happened to share DNA. We knew each other inside out. I hear her sarcastic humor in my head all day long! There was no one funnier."

The actor told fans that her 5-year-old daughter, Julia, has inherited Wendy's sense of humor. "I see her wit in my daughter — Julia has always reminded my whole family of Wendy," she wrote.

"We loved each other SO much and that doesn’t just go away when someone is no longer here with us physically," the actor said of her and Wendy's special bond. "It’s eternal. I know we were truly blessed to share that kind of love.

"I realize I’m only at the beginning of this journey and I certainly don’t have all the wisdom, but I know for now I’m doing my best to do what I think Wendy would want me to do. I’m putting one foot in front of the other and making the most of each day. I love you, Wendy," she wrote.

Chabert concluded her post with a compassionate message to others who are mourning loved ones. "If you’re missing someone you love tonight, my heart is with you," she wrote.

Chabert revealed the news of Wendy's death in a heartbreaking Instagram post on Nov. 23, 2021, calling Wendy's passing "a shocking loss" that had left her family "broken hearted."

“My beautiful sister, Wendy. Our hearts are shattered into a million pieces that I don’t know how we will ever put back together again now that you’re gone," she wrote at the time.

On Dec. 24, 2021, Chabert, who also has a sister named Crissy, shared a remembrance of Wendy on Instagram.

"I’ve thought about my sister every minute of the day this past month, but especially tonight. She really loved Christmas Eve," she wrote in the caption.

"We love you forever and ever and ever and miss you so much, Wendy," she added.
