Labor Day events around Fort Worth include brunch, a trio of rodeos, water ski show

Visit Fort Worth

It’s time to kick back and enjoy the long Labor Day holiday weekend with events around Fort Worth.

Labor Day is Sept. 5 this year and has been a national holiday since 1894 — a result of labor activists fighting to recognize the contributions of American workers. The holiday is held on the first Monday of September each year.

Here’s a few options to celebrate Labor Day:

Weekend celebration at the Stockyards

The Stockyards is hosting a “Giddy Up & Go! Labor Day Weekend Stockyards Style celebration” to commemorate the holiday weekend.

Patrons can attend three separate rodeos at the Cowtown Coliseum over the weekend: the Stockyards Championship Rodeo on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Championship Rodeo and Junior Bull Riders Showdown at 7:30 p.m on Saturday and the family matinee rodeo at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available now.

The Stockyards’ rodeo music stage will be plenty busy over the holiday weekend:

  • Friday — Baileigh Rhodes from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday — Calamity Janes from 1-4 p.m. and The Red Iron Push from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

  • Sunday — Aurora Bleu from 11:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. and Salt Creek from 4-7 p.m.

Along with the rodeos and live music, the 97 West Kitchen & Bar will extend their brunch past Saturday and Sunday and will open on Sept. 5 from 7 a.m.-2 p.m., just for the holiday. The Stockyards’ Drover Hotel will host three concerts from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday with Brad Russell, Friday with Austin Campbell and Saturday’s act is local but being kept as a surprise for now.

  • Where: 131 E. Exchange Ave.

  • When: Sept. 1-5

  • Cost: Free to attend concerts, rodeo tickets available online
