Kura Revolving Sushi opens first Westchester restaurant

The first revolving sushi restaurant has opened at the Midway Shopping Center in Scarsdale.

This is the first Westchester spot for Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, which has 62 locations across the U.S. and more than 600 worldwide including in Japan, Taiwan and China.

The eatery, which was founded in the U.S. in 2008 (but dates back to 1977 in Japan), is known for the constant motion of its dishes served along a conveyor belt and ordered via a touchscreen.

It had its soft opening April 21 (and a line to get in!) with a grand opening set for April 24. The first 100 seated dine-in guests on that day, as well as on April 25 and April 26 who have Kura Sushi Rewards Member QR codes will receive one SPY x FAMILY Bikkura Pon graphic tee, a signature of the chain. If you're among the first 300 seated dine-in guests April 24th, you'll also get a commemorative Scarsdale sticker.

The company, which refers to itself as a leading technology-enabled Japanese restaurant concept, offers a menu filled with more than 140 Japanese dishes such as sushi, noodles, soup, tempura, sides and dessert. All meals are free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings and are covered by the company's patented lid with plate protective and tracking technology referred to as “Mr. Fresh.”

Prizes — and automation — are also part of the experience (and decor). When you're finished eating, you insert your plates into a small slot near your table. When five plates go in, colorful cartoon animation lights up on the kiosk in front of you; 15 plates and you get a free prize. For each time you come, you can earn points with every meal, redeem rewards, and more with their Kura Sushi Rewards program.

What also makes this place attractive, aside from the novelty of it all, is the price: Sushi costs $3.85 per plate, other plate prices vary.

Being that this place is technology forward means you can sign up via a remote waitlist on the Kura Sushi Rewards app. The app will be enabled after the grand opening week.

The new Scarsdale spot features 15 tables and five counter spots, which can accommodate 74 guests.
