Kung Fu Panda 4 has received a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score after reviews from a host of major publications were posted online.

At the time of writing, DreamWorks' fourth outing for Jack Black's unlikely hero has received an RT score of 81% from 26 reviews. That means four-fifths of the reviews are generally positive, rather than an average of the reviews' score (if they even have them).

Many of the reviews offer faint praise, calling the movie decently entertaining but nothing too memorable or hugely impressive.

Here's what some critics have said.

The Hollywood Reporter

"This humor in this edition doesn't seem as broad as usual, with the mostly low-key laughs coming from amusing visual gags ... Many of the gags are either derivative or homages, depending on your perspective, including the vicious killer bunnies that bring to mind Monty Python and the Holy Grail. But that doesn't make them any less funny."

Empire

"There's no radical new direction for this resurrection, but more of the slick, pacy and beautifully animated fun fans will be used to. Like the Minions series, this is reliable entertainment — never really pushing any boundaries, but likely to keep the kids quiet for about 90 minutes."

The Washington Post

"Black could start his own kindergarten cult, if he were so inclined. But new-to-the-series directors Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Ma Stine seem less confident than the previous filmmakers that Zen sections of their screenplay can keep the youths entertained. The pacing is frenetic, with one fight scene spilling over into the next and timeouts no bigger than the space between dominoes."

Slant

"The film is a good time, and it doesn't exactly betray any of Kung Fu Panda's strengths, but it also exhibits the telltale signs of a series struggling to justify its existence."

Blu-ray.com

"Thankfully, the old Kung Fu Panda fun remains in the third sequel ... which provides a nice reminder of series highlights while aiming to redirect focus in this universe of spiritual balance and overeating. Kung Fu Panda 4 doesn't feel tired, which is perhaps the greatest compliment the feature can receive, giving the now multi-generational audience a pleasant cinematic adventure."

Kung Fu Panda 4 is released in US cinemas on March 8 and in UK cinemas on March 28.
