KSEE/CBS47 reporter leaving Fresno for Bay Area. She’ll be working in bilingual news

Nathalie Vera

Nathalie Vera has spent her career bouncing back and forth between English and Spanish language news.

Her first TV job was at a Spanish language station in Salinas. Later, she worked for a CBS affiliate on the Central Coast before getting hired by Univision in Fresno in 2020. The following year, she took a reporting job with KSEE24/CBS47.

She’ll be working in both languages as a bilingual reporter for NBC/Telemundo in the Bay Area, something that Vera says has “always been my dream.”

Some will likely remember Vera as a morning reporter for Your Central Valley, doing 4 a.m. shifts and lighthearted, fun stories. One of her first morning show hits was from the Island Water Park, where she reported live while descending from one of the park’s water slides.

“I’m on the ride. I’m cold. I’m wearing a dress,” she said.

“But, anything for good television.”

With Univision, Vera was part of a team that won an Emmy for its coverage of the state’s coronavirus shutdown and worked with The Fresno Bee on a story exposing toxic tap water in Tipton and other Latino communities in the San Joaquin Valley.

As a daytime reporter with KSEE24/CBS47, Vera continued pitching in-depth stories with focus on community, especially Hispanic community. That included several stories following Fresno street vendor assaults and the city’s response to the killing of Lorenzo Perez in March of 2021. The 45-year-old street vendor was shot while on the job, prompting a call for better protections from the city.

Vera knows that many see Fresno as a stepping stone for TV news reporters. She says the two and a half years she spent in Fresno was actually longer then she originally thought she was going to stay and that she really liked living and working here, despite not being able to really explore the city for the first year because of the pandemic.

Her last newscast for KSEE24/CBS47 was last week. She can be seen on NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 beginning Nov. 16.
